Sorry if this is the wrong section for this.

I have tried usb tv tuner things before to get tv on my pc but they have never worked. So now for my new build i want to add a TV card so i can watch tv

What card to you recommend? It must be compatible with VISTA or W7.

As to best, no idea, but I use a Hauppauge Nova-t 500 dual tuner card on Windows 7 (also worked on Vista) and have no complaints. This is for Uk DVB-T broadcasts, you would need something else for freesat or analogue.

What sort of TV? Terrestrial freeview, satellite freesat?

I use a Commpro S350 for freesat. Was £25 and didn't need any drivers installing in Win7, it just worked out of the box in media center

freeview would be good, but aslong as i get bbc 1 2 STV and channel 4 that would be great.

ill have a look at the 2 menchioned :)

I've been using a Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-T 500 for years, although with WinXP (media centre edition) not Vista. It's a DVB-T card, meaning it's for digital terrestrial (Freeview). One particular advantage is it's dual channel, meaning you can record one channel while watching another, or record two channels at the same time. It does this from a single aerial connection. I've been very happy and had no problems.

I have used a Hauppauge Nova-t 500 and the usb version Nova-TD
Both very good tuners , with the right software you can record up to 12 channels at once and also watch a channel IF it is on the same Mux :-)

I also have the Nova-HD-S2 satallite card for freesat ( it also support HD , BBC HD and ITV HD are currently available on it )

i have 2 in mind now, nova t 500 aand the commpro s350. what one is best for the money? im new to tv cards and i dont know what to look for

Cos it cant do awesome stuff like scanning a recording you have made and marking the advert breaks
My media PC can handle all media types I have and works just with a remote control

ok im convinced :p that sounds awesome!

does it do it well? how does it tell when adverts start?

Hauppauge WinTV Nova HD S2 for freesat and/or Terratec Cingery 2400 i DT for freeview, both off these work in W7 mediacenter...

now that im fully informed about tv cards im going to buy WinTV Nova HD S2 :D lots of good reviews on forums/websites about that. Just hope it will work on my new build now. No reason why it shouldnt :)

thanks for your help
