Please could anyone suggest a good upgrade for this, around or less than £100 with VAT.

Greatly appreciated, I want to be able to record ingame video without halving my FPS :)

Current card: OcUK ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Other spec:
Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail (at 2.6)
4G Crucial Ballistix DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz
Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply

And would you expect it to make a decent difference to my system? :) Thanks for the advice so far.

Also, could someone confirm compatibility please? for example, bus: PCI-E 2.0. I dont know if my asus mobo is v2.0? How can I check, or am I being simple :)

Thanks

The GTS250 and Radeon 4850 are so similar in performance, you'd be best off judging on subjective grounds tbh. Personally I'd go for the GTS250 as I prefer Nvidia cards :) But either would be a very good choice.

Either will also work fine in your motherboard - whilst they state PCI-E 2.0 and your motherboard is PCI-E 1.0, there will be no compatibility issues.

Theres a good chance I have now placed this order :p

Thanks very much for all your help :) So long as the bank doesn't shaft me again like they did my last order (blocked the "suspicious" purchase 3 times...) it should be with me next week :)

Super!
