Best value SLI ready 850 watt PSU?

Hi there. I currently have a 650 watt PSU and I am planning on upgrading to crossfire, which I think will mean that I need to upgrade my PSU.

I would like to spend as little money as possible but will not pay for a cheap one at the same time :-)

I was thinking as well, do I actually need 850 watts for the system I am running?

I have 7 fans + 1 hard drive + 1 DVD drive + 4 sticks of ram

May I ask what the make and model number of your current PSU is?

If it is a decent quality one - then you will have no trouble running your system with dual 6870s.

Ah, fair enough.

In that case I would go for this one - it will run your system and dual 6870s without any bother.

Each fan uses less than 5W, so I wouldn't worry about having 7.

The XFX 650W is better quality PSU than the OCZ.

This page gives you an idea of the maximum power draw of a system using an overclocked i7 and two 6870s (ie 481W maximum power draw in furmark).

That psu only has two pci-e connectors, a bit rubbish for a 700w psu.
