It took me over an hour to do the exterior on Saturday, mainly due to fly corpses and miscellaneous dots of dirt which seem to weld themselves to the paintwork... is there a trick to get them off quicker?

Auto Glym Intensive Tar Remover will help with the majority, if that fails then giving the bad bits a quick going over with Meguires Quik Clay will ensure the rest is gone.

Yeah AG Tar remover always does it for me and is a lot quicker and simpler than a clay bar. Clay bar in my experience is better at getting embedded particulates off.

Of course a proper polish and wax afterwards will prevent such crap sticking to the car in the first place.

Ive found once of those mesh sponges gets any of them off in seconds. I do a normal sponge wash then do the worst bits with one of those sponges. Literally never had a fly or piece of crud that hasnt come off in seconds.

I can do both car exteriors in a hour now with that when it used to take me two.

Edit

Similar to the one I use.

in the supermarket, you can get a sponge with a rough side, it's called a bugshifter suprisingly, i have one, they are about 79p lol, they don't scratch your car so don't worry :D

oi oi oi steady on there  :p I wonder what car you had at 17 to?

*how did he know  *

tbh I would have killed for a 200 at 17 but as that was some 13 years ago it would have been only about a decade old design by then :). Then again I couldn't afford to drive until 20, you rich young things these days :(

Not really, just start building up a nice layer of wax so it'll become easier to wash as the bugs etc. don't stick quite so much. Other than that use loads of water, soak the whole car first then re-soak each section as you go to wash it, that will give the grime a bit of time to soak up water and soften.

Did mine today, due to the lovely bodge jobs to the roads recently, digging up what look to me to be perfectly good sections of road and laying down "temporary" surfaces, both sides had lovely tar splatters up them :mad:took ages to do polish just one side then I ran out of light :(

No where near as bad as my dads car though  that is literally plastered up the side due to traffic being directed over freshly layed tarmac during road resurfacing.

You should use the two bucket method one for soap one for rinsing and make sure they both idealy have grit guards at the bottom.

I pre soap and wash with karcher using super snow foam from autobrite.
then wash using chemical guys maxi suds II,
follow this with some xxx wax for a nice finish.

Autobrite.co.uk and cleanyourcar.co.uk are who I use.

As its coming up for winter instead of snowfoam I use Traffic film remover from autobrite amazing at removing grit etc and no need to wash as it will be winter.

need advice etc visit detailingworld forums :)

Edit: for bugs etc get some chemical guys strong wash, takes all them off very easy.

Heh, best way to clean my car (the Toyota) is the loud pedal to the floor in 5th gear during a rain storm!! :D

Other than that it's lucky to see ANYTHING resembling a cleaning......

I washed mine over the weekend.

First time I've ever washed from the top down and rinsed each panel after washing. Then I dried it with a chamois.

For some reason it looked completely different!
