The duty free at Borg El Arab airport in Alexandria is basic to say the least and there wasn't a great choice of whiskies but I spotted a bottle of Ouzo for $8.00 and thought "I'll have a go of that" :D

Some of you may be surprised to learn that I've never had this before and was wondering how people prefer to drink it?

Does one knock it back as nature intended, or take it with ice, or water or lemonade?

How do you guys like yours?

Quickly :p

The key to drinking ouzo is to eat snacks known as mezedes. These keep the effects of the alcohol from overwhelming you and enable you to sit and drink slowly for hours in a profoundly calm state of mind where all is beautiful and life is fine.

With a Lot of Lemonade in it! :D (Spot the liteweight drinker! :p )

I'm talking 1 measure (25ml) to 1 Ltr Lemonade! ;)

Anything you would do with Pernod, do with this. (pints is the favoured way)

I drank Pernod and blackcurrant for years when I was younger - nice taste but not pretty if you throw up :o

Lemonade???

Water or neat tbh.

That's what I was thinking - I'm more inclined towards neat myself. I always prefer to drink spirits neat if possible. I don't see the point of buying something for it's flavour and then masking it with some mixer.

I've ordered a bottle of Grey Goose by the way - should be here tomorrow

Arak (which is the Lebanese version of Ouzo) is usually not drunk straight, but is mixed in approximately equal proportion with water, and ice is then added - you must add the ice last!

Ouzo is served the same way either in a short glass, or a long glass but it's very important for it to be 50/50 with ice put in last. ;)

Water or nothing anything else is wrong.

Mmmm, ouzo....

With an ice cube on the deck of a yacht anchored in a small secluded natural cove just off a Greek island - delicious.

I'm inclined to listen to this man's advice - the man with the worn out passport :p
