Trouble is people died way too often when WRC was like this.

No, because people were more or less playing chicken with the cars and couldn't get out of the way in time. Safety has come a long way since, you won't get driver deaths like last time.

Modern WRC cars are producing around 340bhp, the Metro was a tad over 400bhp in full works spec IIRC. I doubt that would make any impact on spectator deaths now that they have stopped the daft sods from camping out on the run offs of any remotely dangerous bends.

Great video. This is why people like me have little interest in modern Rally cars, the noise that thing made was fantastic, probably only bettered by a Stratos and the sheer event of Group B and even Group 2/4 before it was fantastic. 6R4 ran around 420bhp in final works spec but some of the turbo cars we over 600bhp at the end. Add to that the lack of trick diffs and clever power transfers you have cars that were epic to watch and epic to hear. Modern cars a quicker over a stage and lovely to watch but these were from a different era and a better one!

Lancia Claimed 550bhp for the 1759cc Delta S4, and Ford RS200s were pushing over 650bhp.

With more modern 4x4 systems, the group A cars quickly became as fast on the stages as the old group B cars. A modern group B class would be mental, we'll never see it, as much as I would love to.

I like the idea of n/a 2000cc cars, they sound like the old Escorts used to, mad RPM.

And you know that because your either:

a) an FIA approved WRC crash expert
b) taking a wild guess

There has been deaths in rallying from drivers/co-drivers since Group B was banned.

Unfortunately, you can add all the safety defences you want into a rally car but there will always be occasions when hitting certain objects will be fatal. I'd rather have a group of live hero's than dead ones.

Drivers are walking away from crashes that would have killed them 20 years ago. Safety devices have improved greatly.
