Just wondering if anyone has used bethere's Be Unlimited 24Mb ADSL2+ package for £24/month and what they are like. I am considering it for my Uni house next year. They have a minimum of 3 a month contract which is ideal for us considering we will be there about 10 months rather than a year.

i have it and it is damn fast!! sometimes it is down while they do maintenence but that goes for all suppliers. they have also told me that it is properly unlimited and has no contention ratio yet.

for the money it is the best, i'd get it.

im using it too, they have some mad promotions too

generally performance is very good, its nice to download at around 2mb/s

i think BT has bought them out now though

Indeed, it's o2 that've bought them.

I'm just waiting to be activated at the moment but from all accounts they're a very good ISP and have a good presence on their forum (which always makes me feel more 'connected' to an ISP). Speeds are nice and contention isn't an issue :)

Ive been on Be* since the 7th of this month and migration from BT was very smooth. Connected everything up and all I can say is that it is FAST!.

If it is available they I say go for it as you wont be disappointed....unless of course O2 screw things up, which hopefully wont happen.

Been with them since Nov last year. V stable, hardly any downtime, and terrific support.

They actually listen to customer feedback and recently moved their call center from india to bulgaria, the management team pop on the forums every now and them to talk to the users as well.

Have 2 Be* lines here with the second put in place in Jan, both have a attenuation of 11-14 and the sync speed hovers around 19Mbit each with only 3db on the DS margin left :o.

[EDIT]

I pay £20 a month for each line, looking to get the business package with an incredible 2.5Mbit upload

I don't really get this. Hopefully you will be able to shed some light.

I've just phoned BT to see how much it would cost to get a BT line installed etc so I can subscribe to Be.

But BT informed me, that the maximum their exchanges offer is 8MB and my local exchange offers a max speed of 6.5MB. So how is it, that Be can offer a 24MB service?

Thanks

Phil

it is upto 24mb, depending how far you are from the exchange & other s/n factors.

check out the faq

Will I really get 24 megs?
The actual bandwidth that you will receive is based on three factors: the length of the wire that connects your premises with the BT exchange, the quality of the copper, and signal interference from other users or devices. If the quality of the copper is perfect, and there is no line noise, you will receive 24 megs up to a kilometre from the exchange. If your line is two kilometres long then you can expect to receive up to 15 megs. Your bandwidth will decrease further as line length increases, and we do not offer our service if you are further than 5.5 kilometres from the exchange. While bandwidths are not guaranteed, we do offer the highest bandwidth available using ADSL2+ to your premises.

i live around the corner from the exchange so get ~ 18 but using DMT it can be tuned up :)

BTw use ADSL (which has a maximum 8Mbps rate), and your line (not your exchange) can do (by BTw's reckoning) 6.5Mbps.
Be use LLU, so have their own kit in the exchange which does ADSL2+, which does up to 24Mbps.

Additional to the above post:

BT were probably also only talking about non-LLU services. Hence saying that 8mbits was the maximum.

edit: Ah, Tolien beat me to it and in more detail than I cba typing anyhow :p

I've just got this as a second connection at home (I have a primary dsl from work which is addressed from our management range so I can work from home but because of that I can't share it.)

Not quite finished the setup yet but though it's fast and cheap, I have to say their customer service to date has been really bad. just unhelpful and useless. their english isn't so hot either.
