Better than an iPad?

I've got an ipad 2 that does everything that I want, its a lovely piece of technology. Before I got it I couldn't see why I would want a tablet but we use it all the time for browsing the web, football manager etc etc. Looked at ipad 3 but tbh couldn't see any difference, couldn't even work out which one was which in the apple store. I am surprised with the spec of the nexus it seems very good and cheap. The reservation I have with it is the size I don't think 7" is big enuf for a tablet. It isn't different enuf to a smartphone. The samsung is knocking on the door of ipad2 money so can't see the sense in that. Also if you going cheap a blackberry playbook at £129 in currys is probably a better bet for its 64gb storage and better build than a nexus if you are not a gamer.

But in a simple answer, no, ipad is the best tablet due to software support.

If you can purchase one than the iPad I would say.

Prior to my iPad 3 I had the Samsung Galaxy 10.1. I hated it, why because it just felt like a bigger version of my Android phone. Not sure it iPhone owners think the same of the iPad.

Honeycomb was awful on it, but improved upon with ICS. Even then it wasn't as smooth as the iPad. It had better video codec support and extra useful features like drag and drop with direct USB connection, USB host support, and such.

However, now that I've got an iPad I love it. The battery is very decent I can go a few days without having to charge if I just use it for reading and web browsing, occasional gaming and skyping.

The apps make the iPad a good tablet. Without the apps it would be a useless device to be honest. App selection dedicated for tablets is better on iOS than Android.

I'm a keen Android fan, all my last few phones have been Android, I dislike the iPhone but love the iPad.

For me an Android handset and an iOS tablet are a match made in heaven as it gives me 2 operating systems to play with and not get bored with one or the other.

My HTC One X is excellent for outdoor usage and on the go, at work and such due to it's big screen, and the iPad is excellent when at home or when I use it for longer journeys to keep me entertained.

I've jailbroken mine for useful Cydia tweaks, also looking to get the camera connection kit cheapo of the auction place and use it along with iFile.

Maybe wait for a win 8 tablet to come along then as I really want one where I can download things like drivers etc and transfer to an sd card etc.

Have a hp touch pad with its android

And android tablet is mine to do what I want with
An apple tablet feels like I am renting it

No widgets
Terrible colour scheme (imo admitantly)
I tunes.. Don't get me started

With android I can install what I want, remove what I want. Etc.

If you aren't bothered about tinkering etc and want an out the box device that just works... Go apple
Otherwise android

Then again windows surface.. I might want

I need to have a tablet that is able to download stuff and then transfer onto an sd card etc.

If you find 10" usable then the iPad3 is the better tablet for most things but if you think its too large then the Nexus 7 is worth a look. Personally I find Apple an abhorrent repulsive company and would never buy one of their products again, but there's no denying they make the best large tablet.

After months of researching I bought an Asus Tranformer with keyboard and I love it BUT after a year of owning it I would gladly swop it for an iPad3.

Andriod - all the features you WANT if you have the time mess around with it with average support, below par quality apps and a fragmented platform.

Apple - all the features you NEED right out of the box up and running in 5 mins flat with great support, high quality apps and a solid platform.

Just for clarification, I own apple and andriod.

Customization is great for the first 5 mins but at the end of the day I quite frankly have better things to do than mess around with launchers and skins on my phone and tablets because they all do the same thing and make almost zero difference from using whats included from stock.

Apple - all the features your ALLOWED running in 5mins. Their is a million things you could want to do but never can, on the other hand android really lacks quality apps.

- Nope, there are also a wide range of browsers on iOS, Chrome included. They're much the same but the iPad does offer a higher res screen which can be both a plus and a negative depending on the site you're viewing and how it's optimised.

Games - iPad - Again Tegra 3 games IOS well over priced.
Is it? Having owned both iOS and Android I felt there was more choice on iOS and whilst there weren't as many free/ad supported games the ones it did have were on average of a higher quality.

Music - iPad Hate itunes with a passion lol Well, fair enough (I don't see why but whatever). It is a more integrated system giving you access to a huge library of music on the go.

Films - iPad mmm not sure android offer a wide range of video codecs Great for people who download/rip films but the iTunes selection is greater for those that stream. I'd call it a draw.

Photos - iPad Not sure Pretty similar really, higher res screen on the iPad but it's not a huge deal.

Battery life -iPad About same has every device Most are 7-8 with a few Android tabs offering around 10 to match the iPad, I believe the Samsung 7.7 is around 12 though.

Hate on Apple - Samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1

I would like a tablet that lets one transfer photos / files easily onto a memory card, has a USB port. fast, not restrictive on what software you can use.

So basically you came into the thread knowing you wanted an Android tablet, or at least not an iPad.

fragmentation?

Loads of different versions all running simultaneously, various sizes and resolutions, lack of updates for some, varying levels of support.

Like what apps? Android has came a long way and whats on iphone/ipad you can get on Android most times Free or even less the price.
Apple is money robbing company just like EA, Take Angry birds for an example it was £2.99 on apple and free on Android as is most apps.

Android is open for the user to do what they need and setup how they like. Ios is like being in a prison cell.

The free Android version is ad supported, isn't it? Also, it's 0.69p not £2.99 on iOS.

Apple - all the features your ALLOWED running in 5mins. Their is a million things you could want to do but never can, on the other hand android really lacks quality apps.

But you can, jailbreak it.

No, my wife owns an ipad2 but what i dont like about it is the fact that i cant download stuff and then transfer to an SD Card etc. Stuff like drivers and pics and files etc.

I was pondering what to do. I would like a pad of my own

A little dated now but I still love using my HP TouchPad. Surfing the net is fast and fluid and the multi tasking is just fantastic. With the gestures you chop and change between apps whilst having music/skype chat on in the background.

Edit.

Love WebOS :D

I have installed on my touch pad android, typing on it now just finished playing defiance from Netflix :-) use it alongside my Samsung galaxy 3 to sync docs. Browse my PC network etc does everything I want it to do.

This was one of the reasons I decided on an Asus TF101 that I wanted to be able to put SD cards in and USB devices but in over a year I've never done it because I've used cloud programs like Google Drive.

But i would be using it for work too and college that i am attending

But then its basically the same as android.

I personally have a JB iPhone and I love dreamboard/winterboard and so on, but it all takes time, not like anything is perfect.
