Hi

I am thinking about buying some Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro Headphones, but I'm unsure which version to go for, should I go for the 80 Ohm or the 250 Ohm version. I am using them on my PC and I have that connected to a NAD 320BEE Amplifier.

Thanks Guys

I think Phal might be able to answer this.

But, the 80 Ohm ones are supposed to have more bass than the 250 Ohm ones. The 250 Ohm ones are better balanced.

I would consider the DT 990 pro as well.

You'd probably have to look up the specs on your amp. They'll play but might not be loud enough for your liking but I don't know for sure personally.

Unless you need closed headphones then DT 880s/990s are a little nicer since they're semi open/open. They are more expensive in general though so I guess it depends on your budget too.

Thanks, just found the manual out for the amp but I'm not sure what part of it would tell me about the power output for the headphones

That amp will be more than sufficient to damage your hearing with 1700ohm headphones let alone 250 ohm. The 93dB level limiters on my canford branded sennheisers kick in at around 30% on the volume control on my amp which is similarly rated.

So i take it that the Amp will run the 250 ohm version with no problems :D

Now i just need to work out which ones to get DT 880s/990s/770 Does anyone here have the 880s or the 990s ? are they worth the extra money ?

I can pick the DT770 Pro for around £117 but the DT 880s and 990s seem to cost a hell of a lot more and i don't think i want to go that far up on the price

Yeah there is a fair sized price jump to the 880s/990s. If possible you should have a listen of the headphones you want but that's not always easy to do. At the very least you should try a set of closed cup headphones and then some open ones to see the difference. I don't hate the sound of my MMX 300 which is basically the same as a DT 770 but it's not as natural as semi open like a DT 880/T1 or like an open set like the DT 990s.

The price is hard to justify at first but with these kinds of headphones it's more of an investment really. There's no reason why they wouldn't last you 5 years easily :) The old pair of DT 990s are made of plastic only and they've lasted 20 odd years and I even recently got some new earpads for them since spares are still available hehe.

Well, I think the Dt 990 pro will be a better all rounder for gaming, music and movies. It does cost around £140 though.

I presume you will be using the headphones for everything?
