yep...never thought I would see something like that happening. As I was playing,I suddenly hear a great bang noise(but not from the game itself) and now most of the DVD is stuck somewhere inside the DVD Rom(only individual pieces are out).

Anyone had that happening before? Would EA replace my DVD(I had the game for a while)?

EA replace it? Customer support? hah!

Seriously, no they will not. Id be more annoyed at he dvd drive going pear shaped myself.

this was summin that happened a while ago, sure it was battlefield aswell, certain discs were failing with too much heat

google it im sure youll find the story

i had this with quake 3 in 2000 the cd exploded or something like that and my cd rom was stuck ul man buy new dvd rom or some how get dvd pieces out of it

I took the DVD out(well, wasnt as one piece...) and the DVD Rom seems to still be working ok.

Does anyone believe that I should look for replacing the drive itself or this is down to BF2? After all,I gotta admit that this game's DVD was a bit notorious for causing me all kinds of troubles though I never though it would get me to this.I might at least just use some sample DVD to see if it does me similar trick eventually.

Usually an imperfection in the disc that eventually shatters it - drive wouldn't have been to blame. Think you should chuck the reader now though, lots of shards still in there.

I had a BF1942 disc explode on me way back when, I sent the pieces and the drive (lol) back to EA asking for replacements. Did get a new disc but they weren't budging on the DVD-ROM :D

Had this happen first hand with a red alert 2 disc, my bf2 disc also developed a split on the inner ring. Both ea games and most of the time i read threads like this its an ea disc thats to blame.

send it off to EA

they've always used poor quality discs and i had this with 2 BF1942 CDs

each time they just sent me a new copy of BF1942 Deluxe Edition, even though the CD i sent back was of Vanilla BF1942. 2nd time round they swapped a deluxe edition for another deluxe edition obviously..

cost me a £6 cheque in admin fees which was pretty reasonable i thought. Check the manual, im sure they still do this.

Couldn't this just be a case of a cracked disc or was this a common problem with BF2 DVDs? I'd doubt they'd want to replace the DVD unless a case could be made it was definately their fault rather than someone not checking the DVD for cracks.

I had a problem once with a disc that caused the drive door to fly across the room when it shattered (not exaggerating!) but that was due to a crack on it and me thinking it'd be okay to copy (old 52x cd-rom drive).

they will replace it for a fee, see page about warranty near the back of manual :) But probably cheaper to buy a used copy :)
