Thinking about purchasing on Tuesday did have a think about an X1950XT but the 8800GTS 320MB model came to mind and as i only game at 1280x1024 on a 17" TFT is it worth getting or waiting.

Personally with the 8800GTS 320MB at the price it is now i would buy it.
The difference in price between them is worth it, as the 8800 gts is a much better card plus you will have dx10 capability (when games utilise it).

As Ak!ta says, I would go for it also. X1950XT wouldn't future proof you, its a DX9 card. Have a look on google as there are loads of 320MB to choose from OcUK do the BFG and eVGA but you can find other places that stock Foxconn, Gigabyte, Palit, XFX and many others! :)

Looking at the different makes what are the actual differences.

I have seen the XFX ones that are overclocked, but compare a stock OCUK one to a Gigabyte one, is there any difference ?

The differences aren't much at all. Some will be OC others won't so the Core and Memory speeds are either 500MHz (Core) or a little more on the OC versions and 1600MHz (Memory). I think the coolers are all the same on the cards, just different stickers on the cards themselves.

Baring that in mind I would settle for a brand that is reliable and has good customer relations. BFG offers lifetime warranty and great customer service. Not sure about the others but I would consider that the over-riding factor given the cards are almost the same!

Same size as the x1950 XT/x1950 XTX/x1900/x1800 etc... (9 inches) cracking cards, running one here at 1280x1024, absolutely astounding card, totally demolishes my x1800 XT 512mb, also agree about getting it over the x1950 XT, those are worthless now even at £135, 320mb 8800 GTS is much better/faster, and is next gen . :D

I've got the OC edition and its a great card, you won't regret it.

On a side note, is it normal for this card to run at around 65C idle?

my mate got the exact same reading, always 65. just ignore it tbh, if it really got to hot, it would shut down.
