Bideford N.DEvon to Swindon

My mate wayne drives a BMW M3 limited to 155 and he reckons he can get from bideford to swindon in 45 mins

it is impossible to say the least even if he was going 155 most of the way!!

its half way to london lol and that takes 3 hours if u go fast.

google maps says its 143 miles and is meant to take 2 hr 48m!!

Well lets put it this way, if it's 143 miles he would have to drive at an average of 143 to do it in an hour and about 190 to do it in 45 minutes.

There is absolutely no way he could do this. Even if you really, really go for it you'll be very suprised at how 'low' the average speed ends up being. I've done a few longer distance (A roads though) runs in the dead of night in clear conditions and enjoyed my car yet arrived with a suprisingly 'low' average speed.

Also the A361 from Bideford to the M5 - some 30-40 miles - is single carriageway A road. There is no way he'd pull even a 3 figure average on that road.

It's such a shame that these sort of people are getting hold of M3's

Yep, you are right.

It is almost an hour if you drive 'normally' just to get to junction 27 of the M5 from Bide!!

He can afford the M3 because he owns his own building firm, apparently lol.

Exactly. Even at full whack, you'd never cover that distance in that time. 1hr 45min would be pretty good going, averaging just under 82mph. I've not actually driven on those roads though... they might be terrible.

The north devon link road isn't 'too' bad apart from the instow junction where there have been a number of fatal accidents as it is well dodgy. It is all single carriageway though I think but you can easily do 80 on it but there are a number of speed cameras between south molton and tiverton.

The car's got nothing to do with it, until they build a direct road between the 2 places with no junctions, roundabouts or other traffic then a Fiat Panda is going to get there in much the same time as an M3

Whilst not particularly directed at you MrFunex, I think many people fail to appreciate just how fast you'd have to go to average 82MPH - many drivers would not average that speed even on a motorway over 1hr 45min imo.

It's true... just averaging 60mph on a normal A-road is a reasonable achievement

I'm sure to average 80mph, you'd have to be hitting at least 120 on occasions

I remember once covering the distance from Bournemouth to Cardiff (125miles) with an average speed of just under 90mph. That was one of the most enjoyable and frightening nights of my life. Never again.

I live in bideford and did the shell garage between j26 and 27 in a Westfield running 260 bhp in 40 mins no way in hell he could do that much further in 5 mins! Getting the to m5 usually takes that long!

his last name is sinclair he went to north devon college with me years ago but now he lives in stansted, essex. I know IF they look but loads don't. Still that instow junction needs something done there tbh it isn't right.

i used to live on morton park road and my dad used to teach at bideford college lol french teacher with grey hair
