Help me decide on a new Bike

Hey all,

OK so i wanted to change my current bike frame (16" Giant ATX 980) but it would seem a cheaper option to get a new bike by the time i found my headset and bottom bracket were either knackered or the wrong size. I have always loved Kona's, and quite like THIS!

My local bike shop can get me a Kona Blast for £549.99 which i have seen in the flesh and really like.

Is the Cinder Cone (from 2006) a good bike, better value for money than the 2007 Blast?

I would preferably like tos ee and try the bike before i buy, i live in Somerset and don't mind traveling a little bit. I will be using it to commute to work every day, and going out playing at the weekends. I'm not going to be doing the stuff i did when i was a nipper, so no massive jumps and drop-offs, but sa bit of down hilling and some maybe minor jumps.

I want a hard tail around 19" size. (I'm about 5ft 11)

What's your absolute max budget and what level of kit do you already possess - i.e. is the stuff you've got good enough to put on a new frame?

Personally I wouldn't touch Konas - I ride a 2006 Rockhopper Disc, you can probably get one of them for about the same as the Kona and I'd rate it as an ace bike. MBR bike of the year at the price point too.

I like kona but i find the rockhoppers have something more about them...they just feel better. Save a bit till you can spent £600-700 and get a rockhopper disk, the cable brakes on the kona are average at best. Spend more justnow and you will save money in the long run.

The forks on the kona are also dire at best,at least with any of the rockhoppers you are getting a semi decent set of rockshocks.

Yeah Kona's are generally overpriced usually pay several hundred more, and parts are from lower range, ie £700 Kona with Shimano Sora/Tiagra is quite common. Should be equipped with 105.
