I think he means that it wouldn't see anything, and would probably get in the way when (on a sportsbike) you're in a full tuck, helmet almost resting on the tank.

Yep that's what I'm getting at, there's no way I can see it being any use when you're lying on the tank.
Although I'm basing this on my position which is probably quite different to the position you get on a Striple.

Ok, why did no one tell me just how much not having commuting on insurance can reduce it?

2007 Aprilia Tuono Factory SDP&C: £705
And SDC only (no commuting): £371

Got that down to £290 fully comp via thebikeinsurer, £250 excess. :)

Fully comp, 4k miles per year, garaged.

A standard non factory Tuono of the same year isn't as much difference, £340 without commuting vs £365 with so obviously it's highly dependent on the bike (factory model will be dearer to repair with the ohlins/carbon/forged wheels).

I'd always included commuting on the 2nd/weekend/summer bike as I'd be likely to do the occasional Friday commute in the summer, but for double the insurance cost I'll go without! :D

Weather forecast for tomorrow here in the Midlands is Dry but it says around the 4c to 5c mark temp wise so if anybody is going Matlock they better get the thermals out. If it brightens up a bit later I'm getting the bike out so I can go over it & hopefully take it for a little spin, If all that happens then I'm going Matlock. If I can't get the above done then I'll do it tomorrow & have a little run out on my own. Main thing really is me getting to go over it thoroughly & getting out on it, I don't think it would be sensible to get up in the morning & take the bike out blind then do my first run out after my illness with thousands of other bikers around me, I definitely need a couple of hours going over it & a run out on my own first.

What's others thoughts on tomorrow ? Going or not now the weather forecast is close & should be accurate.

Surely a chest harness would be useless when you're tucked in on the track?

With regards to track days and cameras, keep them off your person, regardless of country and rules. I point this out for people who are considering doing a trackday and haven't done anything like it before.

The odds of having an incident on a trackday are fairly high (Don't let that put you off, Novice group accidents tend to be lowside incidents going into corners or out-braking themselves, ending up in kitty litter). The idea of a chest mount camera on a track day frightens me! Just don't do it, only thing you should be wearing is chest protection, not a lump of hard plastic. A simple lowside spill and you land on your front..

The only place a GoPro/action cam should be mounted is on the bike, even the top of the tank should be excluded. As previously mentioned a tail mount camera pointing forward or a fairing mount are favorable. In this country at least, the track marshals WILL NOT let you out on to the track if they see a camera in a precarious position and you'll be warned about it in the briefing, it's all in the name of safety.

It was horrid here yesterday so I didn't even get to tweak let alone have a ride out so no Matlock for me. S'posed to brighten up later so hopefully I'll be out on it later.

@Clov!s - What mirrors did you get & where from /how much etc ?

@Clovis, Which delivery did you pick?

Just checked my invoice and it was more than i thought, 13 euro delivery and that was E-express (800g) package. :)

Didn't get round to fitting them, had some dinner, went the shop, now i'm going for a nap. :)

After watching a bit of the RJ vid in the Husqvarna 701 thread I can't believe he's not had a serious accident yet.
I know it always looks closer in the vids due to the camera but he rides like all other drivers are paying attention and will see what he's doing and it just looks like one day he's going to come a cropper.

Is it just me not being use to the crazy London style riding?

I think it's a combination of GoPros making stuff look faster and closer, plus the driving style in London seems completely different, people expecting bikes to filter etc. (that's obviously not to say there are still people that don't look). He hasn't crashed in a good few years and constantly rides like that so is either very lucky or is doing something right :p

As craig has said, he's been riding in London traffic for years, it's London filtering and IMO, done well. of course to some it will seem crazy...

Worth a watch
