I came across this and had to read it a few times to believe it was real.

Fair enough. Hasn't got the space / doesn't want to keep them, but also very wasteful to throw something like that out when there are creative people around that can do something with it.

More about the 'Cut off my son' statement, quite dark for an ebay item.

Need to get my fork seals changed on the hornet. I have tried the seal mate but still leak a little.

I reckon I could do this my self, but I've been quoted £60 fitted from a local mechanic

I can get the fork seals, new dust seal and fork oil for £28 plus £38 for a seal driver

So question is, do I just get it done by mechanic or buy the kit and do my self ?

At £60, get them to do it, all day. No question. I got mine done on the varadero by a mechanic down the road from my work for just under £60, he's moved to a new place now though, typical as they need doing on my CB400 now.

If I go to the Honda dealer it'll be over £100 easily, it's probably 2 hours work to replace both seals so essentially you're paying £15 an hour labour where main dealer rates are more like £80 an hour!

Thanks mate. On hindsight the seal drivers probably won't be used again, at £60 ill get the mechanic to do it :)

Yeah it can be a bugger of a job, especially undoing the bolt at the bottom of the fork legs to release the spring/damper rod, they tend to spin and not undo, let alone the work of getting the bike up on a headstock stand, and stripping the legs off. If it was £100+ then you could try it yourself, but for £60 let someone else do the hard work :)

Agreed - I have just done this on my ST1100 - as my local wanted nearly £200. Truth be told, after buying decent seals, the driver tool, oil, bushes, and a massive set of hex drives for my 17mm fork caps I didn't save a great deal. That been said, its not a massively difficult job if you have a reasonably comprehensive tool kit - and its good learning. For £60 I would just get it done :)

been watching videos and have the service manual and haynes and i reckon i could do it and my inner mechanic is urging me to try it but its the issue of the bottom allen bolt not coming loose that worries me.

Ive seen people use an impact gun to get it off, i have no such luxury

As you say for the cost its worth while getting someone else to do them.

i would not be using the seal driver again unless i make a home made one

plus £60 would also mean the work is guaranteed.

think i will get the bushes and dust cover replaced at same time

will go for genuine Fork Seals, are aftermarket bushes/dust covers ok to use these days or shall i buy genuine ones of them too?

Pyramid Parts/Wemoto seem to be highly rated for parts

Does anyone have any experience with Icon gear?

Very tempted by the HyperSport Prime jacket but haven't really heard of the brand before.

Can't say I've heard of them either.

I did however find some reviews by typing 'Icon HyperSport Prime review' into Google ;):p

Got this today:

:D

Still waiting for my bar ram ball mount clamp thing (tough claw) to go with that. Also got the UltimateAddons 3 prong RAM ball adapter the other day so I can attach my iPhone in its case to the tough claw as well.

So now I have nice easy convenient phone/satnav mounting on my bike without leaving any nasty-ness behind.
