Ducati 916 was my dream when I was 12. Had a very large poster of one on my wall

I've read they're quite small and I'm 6'4 so I'm not sure how well I'd ever get on with one.

Once I have a couple of years riding under my belt I will definitely be getting a Ducati of some sort. I do love the new 1100 monster and Streetfighter but not so keen on the front of the 10/1198. The front of the 916 is just so iconic.

When I was 12 my favourite was probably Mick Doohan's Repsol Honda NSR500. I was more into cars at that point, but I still watched the odd race on the TV.

The 916 is a really nice bike. I also liked the look of the 999, which probably makes me the only person that did! A friend at work has an 848 in red and it's such a stunning machine.

The first bike I remember actually causing me to stop dead and drool was the launch report in Bike magazine of the Yamaha FZR1000RU.

Can't tell you what it was about the bike, the whole thing just worked completely and perfectly. It was everything I could ever want in a bike and I desperately needed one there and then. I even liked the paintjob (yes, I owned a shell suit at the time!) Course, I was 17 and on a Kawasaki AR80 and had no hope of ever owning one. A year or two later the Thunderace was launched and then I was seriously in lust! Here was an improved 1000 EXUP that was, in my opinion, achingly beautiful too:

About 4 years ago, I finally part-ex'ed my trusty and loved 1990 FZR600 Genesis for a 1996 Yamaha Thunderace. They always say never meet your heroes, but I'd lusted after this bike for over 10 years and I can honestly say that even after owning her for 4 years I still fancy her as much now as I did when I saw the launch pictures in the magazine.
