I just swapped my X2 4200 for a 5600 and the system won't POST. I meant to reset the BIOS to defaults before I swapped them but in my rush I forgot. I've tried pulling the battery for about 40 mins but nothing. Is 40 mins long enough to drain the CMOS? There are 2 jumpers near the battery (CLR_CMOS and BATTERY CLR CMOS) but neither has the little plastic thingy you slide into the pins (it never came with them, AFAIK). Is there something else I can use on the pins?

Thanks

You can just short it with a screwdriver, no big deal.

On the other hand, are you 100% sure that your mobo supports the 5600 ? I think it doesnt ;).

All sorted. Quite funny...

I found a spare jumper thingy on an old HD and reset the BIOS. Still nothing. I pretty much decided the CPU must have been DOA, but thought I would just try re-seating it as a last try. Pulled the HS/Fan unit off and....no CPU in the socket  It was stuck to the bottom of the HS/Fan :p Even tho I checked it was seated properly the locking arm couldn't have engaged properly. So tried again and double checked this time and..........booted first time :o

And yes, I did check my mobo supported the CPU......I'm not quite that stupid :D

Thanks for the help.
