Apparently that's offset by having lower running costs due to people working for cheaper.
Six of one, half a dozen of the other I say!
I'd bet that most people with most disabilities could perform some sort of useful job, be it call centre work, envelope packing, whatever.
In most cases I don't accept the "but she might be ill" rubbish (this is talking from personal experience btw). If the maimed victims of terror attacks such as the 7/7 bombings can get back into work following huge physical and mental trauma then some lazy little scrote with a "bad back" or fat old knacker with angina can probably do some work.
Sat on her fat old **** watching TV isn't going to do her physical or mental well being any good anyway. Neither is smoking. Sounds like she needs a 7.45g dose of lead to the left temple.
Yes there are people who are genuinely in need, and I sympathise with them, but I would bet a months salary that >75% of the people on disability could be working in some form or other. People just dont seem to have any stamina these days. Being off work "on't disability" with a "gammy leg" is all too common.
Bit of intersting info though: My gf works in HR. In her organisation last yr the average unskilled worker took 19 days off sick. When you start looking at the stats for professional roles (HR, finance, managerial etc.) in the same organisation the average days off sick falls to around 3.5 days per yr.

Only if everybody is working in the public sector, which shouldn't be the case. So Overpopulation and lower wages are bad for the economey, but nice to certain bosses that run at borderline costs

Just because someone is working at the moment does not in any way make them a superior person. for all you know she could have worked the last 30 - 40 years of her life solid, maybe even before you were born. you cant judge someone just because they arent working. if someone is screwing the system big time then fair enough ill even jump in with you on that one but come on.
This society (at least the way these forums go) is one step away from people being shoved in rail cars to be gassed for the crime of not working / not contributing enough to society / too old / mentally ill / disabled.....

If she does have a condition I would doubt it prevents her from bending over to clean up after her dog however.

Again you don't know that for certain. it's all well and good guessing but that's not whats going on here. its judgment without representation. we know nothing of her life. regarding the dog stuff yes she should clean it up, cant argue that, even if she cant bend to pick it up she can use one of those scoop things so she has no exscuse there.
Not so sure about her being a huge drain on the tax payer as whatever ciggies she buys the £££ for goes straight back to the goverment in tax, maybe not 100% of it but a good portion.
And what about the cost of living? prices go up and up on just the basics as it is and a great many people find it very hard to live on benefits as it is, and you want to cut them even more???
People have this idea that living on benefits is easy, you get sky tv, go pub anytime, plenty of money to play with...and it's all ********! if you know someone on benefit that's doing all that then they probably have "fingers in pies" as the saying goes.

lets get off the economics topic and go back ON TOPIC....benefit cheats(not genuine peeps) are scumbags who should be put out to work to paint fences, lift litter, lift dog dirt, cut grass etc...pay them their benefits that way.
Tell me about it, when i was a kid we went on 2 holidays, never over seas. 1 was corwall and the other skeg (2 nights in a B&B) because we had no money. Both parents worked, but didnt get much back then.
I know a single mum, who works 3 days a week, is going to Disneyland Pais AND Majorca this year.
I work full time and because I want to move out I'm not going away this year. Yet she works 3 days a week, gets a lot less per hour than me, and is going on 2 ******* holidays this year. oh and get most of her rent etc paid!

I used to share some of your opinions, but once I graduated and entered the real world of work these opinions changed pretty quickly. When you're working for a living full time and you see others getting more than they deserve and living the life or Riley by scrounging off the hard working majority you'll soon change your mind. A guy I work with has a friend with 3 kids who lives on benefits, not because he has to, but because he is too lazy to find a job. He says he's done the maths and he would have to get a job earning 35K a year to match his current benefits supported lifestyle, so he can't be bothered to find one (his own words).
Which is why the system needs fixing.

Exactly, hope no-one thought I supported the guy's decision! Being lazy is one thing, but the guy must have absolutely no self-respect if he chooses to sit around at home all day instead of earning a living. Don't know how can he look his kids in the eye. Not like he has a disability.
Sorry to ruin your fun, but I actually do work full time, and I probably work harder than you have ever worked, doing the kinds of things that you would consider "beneath" you. I see others getting more than they deserve, but I haven't let my bitter jealousy cloud my view.

Well, I've been on benfits for nearly 2 months and can't work out how the ****** manage it. I am currently claiming JobSeekers Allowance which works out at roughly £260 every 4 weeks, my council tax is covered and I get £73.85 a week towards my rent. Sadly said rentis £400 pcm so I've got to take some of that JSA money and use it to make up the shortfall. The rest of the JSA has to go to food, Gas, Electric, Water rates and my TV license (No Sky or fags, very little alcohol and no phone or broadband so I've had to take my computer up my parents to use their internet).
I was wondering why I wasn't rolling in money and then realised I was a single man and I'd forgot to get a girl pregnant. Rookie mistake!
The Housing benefit has been a nightmare, it's taken two months to process the claim and when they finally did they sent a backpayment cheque for the amount I was owed...but made out to my landlord. Now given that I had already paid my rent up to date by using the last of my final wage form December and also borrowed £50 off my sister to make sure the last payment didn't bounce, I was understandably not happy. The sooner I'm back into work the better because I've had a gutsful of dealing with the local authority already.
