As I have posted recently, I'm after a new motor. Had almost decided on *** 540 beemer but I got thinking after seeing a GTO and hey presto, a UK 3000GT TT is only £750 fc insurance with £100 xs - no too bad considering the pace of the things!

What do I need to look out for. I presume I am right in that the GTO is an import and the 3000GT is the UK car?

Cheers

Pffft 540i > plastic Jap supercar thingy.

In reality the 540i and the 3000GT performance isn't a mile apart and the power is very similar, just mattpc pointed out on the phone last night, this is likely to be my last 'mentalmobile' for a while and the 540i can wait - it's the perfect thing for when I have a family as the missus won't suspect the beemer of being a beast ;)

Fuel economy - I managed 24mpg out of the MX-5 this week...

Insurance was on a standard car but I agree - that is cheap!

Cheers for the advice, any hints on what to look for when purchasing one???

Ahh, but I am looking the Mk1(?) 1994/6 3000GT which I believe is just under 6 seconds to 60, with the BM being about .8 secs behind that. Coming from the <X-5 the handling of the GT may be interesting but the power of either will be unbeliveable.

Don't get me wrong, I really do fancy the loon-mobile over the hugely rapid amalgamation of DFS and ****** and I reckon I would be less inclined to get bored with the GT, with my current record ownership (since I bought the golf in 2001, 10 cars ago) being a massive 11 months!!!!

Besides, he won't be getting a 3000GT with only £5k, it'll be an earlier Jap GTO. Are these not down on power from the UK cars?

Right, been looking at the optoins on the 3000GT and then the GTO. The import is going to cost around £600 more to insure but there are more around they are cheaper. Is there a massive difference between the two or is it jsut the odd 20bhp, which I am sure can be tuned out of it?

Cheers
