Bit of info on the GTO/3000GT

In a straight line my 3000GT had better straight line acceleration over an M3 CSL anywhere between 1mph-150mph

Erm, are you sure about that? I mean like, properly sure rather than 'I raced a CSL on the bypass and pwned him'?

Nope would never believed it myself but it was Elliot who told me he thought my car had better straight line acceleration over his very own M3 CSL. :)

Well I certainly can't argue with that :)

M3, M5, Ferrari, quite a few 600 sports bikes - all easily eaten by the 'plastic jap supercar' I used to drive. It was also seriously quicker than the S8 I owned recently and quicker than the VFR800 I used to ride although slower under 150 then the CBR1100xx I've got now.

Unless you've driven them I wouldn't be so sure about writing them off - I've also drive the 540 whilst decently quick for a teutonic barge, nowhere enar the same league

Whats the quarter mile of an M3 CSL and a 3000GT?
Pretty sure the M3 CSL will thrash it.

Right, been looking at the optoins on the 3000GT and then the GTO. The import is going to cost around £600 more to insure but there are more around they are cheaper. Is there a massive difference between the two or is it jsut the odd 20bhp, which I am sure can be tuned out of it?

Cheers

A stock UK 3000GT (320BHP) 1996 onwards is 13.2-13.4s with a terminal of approx 105mph I think and am unsure what an M3 CSL is. I would be guessing at 12.8-13.3s. Wheras the 540i I believe is approx 14.8-15.4s which is quite a bit slower in comparison.

Jap ones are 280BHP with 9B turbos and are sometimes not fully specced up, for example might only have cloth interior etc., however there is a JAP varient that is very quick which is the MR version, it something in the region of 150kg less heavy than a GTO/3000GT due to several weight saving measures. The MR also handles better and is better suited to drifting due to the lack of 4WS and no sunroof.

UK cars have 320BHP as STD with larger 13G turbo's plus I believe UK cars have larger brakes and are fully specc'd as standard. Basically there was only one varient of the 3000GT in the UK as you got everything as STD for 45k when new, so considering you can get decent cars now for 6k-11k makes them exceptional buys. :)
