Hi, I was going to buy the P12-300SB-DF but santa ain't got enough cash to spend on me. So it would have to be the BK XLS200-DF MK2. (http://www.bkelec.com/HiFi/Sub_Woofers/XLS200.htm)

Now I would use it for music (rock, dance, EDM, electronic etc.), some films and lots of TV. Would this subwoofer pressurise a 4x4 meter room (1242 ft3)? It will go in the corner of the room.

It is replacing a onkyo skw208 (http://www.eu.onkyo.com/en/products/skw-208-34611.html), which is a audiophile's wet dream... just kidding.
Will it be much better than my old one?

Thanks guys!

P.S. This is for my Christmas present :D.

EDIT: Is http://www.toptenreviews.com/electronics/home-entertainment/best-home-subwoofers/yamaha-review/ to be believed? The scoreboard: http://www.toptenreviews.com/electronics/home-entertainment/best-home-subwoofers/.

Hmmm what do you think guys?

XLS200 is way better than what it would be replacing but I'm not sure if a sealed 10 inch is enough to pressurize a room. Incase you don't know check the colosussxb ebay page, they sell their BK subs there with "B grade" enclosures for a small discount (still full warranty). You can get the P12-300SB for £330.

BK laugh at Onkyo's subwoofers. :p

Onkyo are good at making amplifiers and receivers. Their speakers though are just a starting point for those who can't afford more than a basic 5.1 setup.

I know the SKW208 came as part of the system, but considering that can be bought on it's own for £170, someone would have to be mad to buy that over the cheaper and better Wharfefdale SW150 or BK Gemini II for an extra £45.

XLS200 is certainly better again, but surely the P12 at £330 is a better buy. Good find by ATI. Same price as the XLS200, and has the full 2 warranty as well.

As for the Yamaha; I would take that review by top 10 with a pinch of salt. It's the best subwoofer they tested, but they only compared it against 2 others. I've not heard of that site before and it looks to me like they review anything and everything.. almost, rather than just reviewing audio gear.

It's a good sub, for music and TV it'll be more than plenty good enough. You don't need high dB levels, or earth shattering low bass that shakes the room- because the material doesn't have that sort of LF info.

However for action movies, if you want earth shattering bass then it's not good enough. But then I'm used to much higher end subs, and what they do for movies, something "lesser subs" can't match. I don't think a 10" sealed box will give that "my god" effect for action movies (btw I have a SVS 12" sealed box 425W so similar to the BK XLS400) and have owned the first one now own the second one.

If possible I'd try to get the BK XLS 400, if music is a priority.
If action movies are more important then I'd get the Monolith +

People say there is no difference between sealed and ported subs, I am not so sure as for movies the PC Ultra 13 was fab, but for music it just didn't seem to gel that brilliantly, just seemed lumpy. Wheras the SB Ultra 13 improved music like the SVS 12" box which I liked. Movies isn't so impressive on it, because ported does give you that pounding and pressure wave effect.
