Black Ops Most Pirated Title of 2010

people who say games are more expensive now have got a flamin' clue. there are plenty of examples of cartridge based games being stupendously expensive. Turok on the n64, Goldeneye, zoop (> £50!) on the megadrive, virtua racing on the megadrive was near £70 as i recall.

Like ive said in other threads, we've never had it so good.

get real pal people have never had so much stuff to spend money on either

Buh? If people have so much money to spend why are so many being tight and pirating...

BS. if you cant afford it dont buy it. if you want to pirate it, dont blame it on the price of the game. its because your a cheap sod.

This. The pricing of games is not a justification to pirate. Can't afford? Don't play.

Solution?

Get rid of broadband and bring back 56k!

:p

That and the fact that games like Black Ops are absolute turd to begin with. It's not like those pirates would have gone out to buy it in the first place had it not been out to download so hardly lost revenue, it's revenue that would have never happened anyway.

yeah because thats an excuse, right?

you get real mate. the games are are cheaper (WITHOUT inflation). the effort that goes in to them is 10x what it was 10 years ago. Why you cant see that this means games are better value than they've ever been, i really dont know. but you need to open your eyes.

I'm not sure how that makes piracy right still. Regardless of turd games or not...

People pirate because they're just cheap, and want something for nothing with no care for the effort that goes into making things. Take the Humble indie bundles, great games and you can pay as little as one cent for them. Still pirated to ****.

The problem is a lot of new games don't have a Demo to give a full feel of the final game and when they do it's usually a pre-release version only with unfinished work plastered over the splash.

Or it's a closed beta of some sort.

Which leaves the only way for many to try it out by downloading it.

It's not always because people are cheap either, I know I have downloaded games in the past because of the above reasons and never played beyond a few levels because the games were poor and instead spent money on games that I actually do play regularly.

Using the "pirates = cheap" card all the time is like pulling the race card in every GD thread about immigrants/muslims these days.

PC games don't have a 7day money back guarantee like console games do.

I have a vague recollection of spending over 60 quid on the special/limited edition of Streetfighter II Turbo on the SNES.

There used to be no demos before.
There used to be no internet before.
The games used to cost upto £70 before.

All i see now is more & more excuses to steal because its so easy NOW & if it was just as easy to download Cars, beer, TVs & clothes then people would & the same excuses would be used.

stealing will always be here & people will just come up with more excuses to do so the easier it gets as if its there god given right to have something in the first place.

Pirates are cheap, the other excuses don't really wash for me.

How about just not buying the game or waiting til it's on offer then? If you're unsure about parting with your money over something, either don't, or take a gamble on it.

Developers don't owe you a demo, if you pirate a game and only play a few levels of it, are you not still taking the benefits of the effort that the developers put into the game? Whether you enjoy it or not is a moot point.

Pirating a game usually consists of download, install and copying 2 files into the main game directory, sometimes it doesn't even include the last step. You're fooling yourself if you think almost everyone who pirates can't get a game to work.

For me Steam is the biggest counter to game piracy. I used to pirate a fair amount of games, then i discovered steam sales and pirated some and bought others. Now i never pirate and just wait for stuff to appear cheap on Steam. It's never been about grudging a few quid, it's been about ease and the complete rip offs that some titles are.

Thats my story as well. I wish Steam had encouraged all vendors to abondon their rubbish DRM and rely upon their great system. I don't mind paying full whack for games i know are very good and for the average games there is the steam sale after a year so its win-win for the publisher.

Now i know Amnesia is only 5 guys making it i will purchase it even though i didn;t really like the demo. A few £ for obvious talent isn't too much to ask.

You fail to take into account that you have more consumer protection buying a 99p frozen microwave meal than you do a £35-£45 game.
If the meal tastes awful or not of satisfactory quality the vast majority of retailers will refund your money without hesitation.
What happens if you buy a game and it turns out to be rubbish?
Tough luck, money down the drain.

None of that matters because consumer protection or lack of are not the reasons for stealing.
