My renewal is due, and the bloody thing has shot up significantly.
nothing has changed in my circumstances, so cant understand why!
last year i paid £450, this years renewal is £800
have gone through all the comparison sites, and still no change on price.its never been this bad,
have prices gone through the roof for some reason?
Ta

The renewal price is always higher (as lazy/busy people will just accept them), although not quite that much usually!

Just keep trying different companies I guess.

Sounds like they are trying to rip you off, keep looking you should at least be able to match your previous price, try elephant/admiral.

Comparison sites are *****. Call up the major companies direct then your existing one.

Insurance does go up sometimes thanks to fraudsters etc, but that is a bit ridiculous.

Insurance companies seem to just make up there prices IMO.

My current 2.5TD Scorpio estate cost me £664 TPFT.
I made an enquiry today about a 535 BMW 3.5L V8 & the quote was £328.

How can they justify a 3.5L V8 petrol bieng £300 cheaper to insure than a 2.5L diesel.
Values of the cars a the same, driver details the same, address the same etc.....

Thought I'd have a look what swmbo's car would be if insured in my name. Had quotes ranging from £230 to £580 depending on the company. I think they just make it up on the spot.

The insurance companies have had a particularly hard year and they definately seem to be ramping up the costs. My insurance is due next week and so far the renewal from Bell is the cheapest. The only ones anywhere near it are in the same group of companies (Admiral, Bell and Elephant).

Mine range from 800 to 11.5k, yes...£11,500!!

Would prices have taken a blip upwards cause of the recent bad weather and claims? So far to date my renewal quotes have always been higher but a quick scoot round the various comparison sites have always brought it back down but if the OP is saying that he's already had a trawl and found nothing cheaper then it's not looking good.

insurance price would be based upon a group statistic not as an individual one, so if more people with the same car have crashes in the uk, your car would show as a higher risk regardless if you have had a claim or not, same for your postcode, where the car is kept ,occupation etc etc. best way to get the price down is having a look around or just ring ur current company up and say your not happy with the price and that your giving them a chance to improve before you start looking around

Mine just came though, and amazingly it's ~£200 less than last year - haven't looked around online yet as to what other companies would charge though
