just ivested in a media centre and got a sony blu ray drive installed today .... using power dvd ultra 7.3 and my 720 p plasma tv

first disc ive got is gladiator .... ive literally had it on 20 mins as ive typed this........2 things are bugging me

1 why cant a selectr menus with the mouse ?? got to use keyboard dont get that with dvd

2... omg 3 inch black bars .. ouch its like going back to widescreen videos when i had a widescreen crt

any fixes for this especially point 1 ?

The answer to one is it's probably due to to the disk not PowerDVD or format, Apollo 13 HD-DVD is the same.

2. Probably a resolution issue is the HDTV a real 720 panel or a 768 one?

LOL is this the first ever film you've watched in your life????

It's the way the majority of blockbusters have always been produced, the decision is the producer's/director's.

tv is a panasonic p37c10b plasma tv does 720p ( although does except 1080p signal )

the manual is little vague

input signal shows as this in book :-

hdmi 750 (720)/60p

cant seem to find the exact res ... tv is not on panasonics website

Doesn't help that Gladiator has the WORST transfer of any Blu-Ray.

Well the film is likely to be shot in 2.35:1 (or there about) and tvs are only 16:9 so you will still get black bars. Unless you go for the new Philips super duper wide screen :)

I have an annoying problem with HD-DVDs and pdvd 7.3 where the sound and picture go out of sync. I've noticed this on the transformers hd-dvd.

This really confuses me for a few seconds every time I go to watch a blu-ray film. I click on the button but nothing happens, I eventually figure it out though :o

If you have multiple soundcards then try disabling one of them.

The thing that bugs me is that in the extended version some of the movie does have a good transfer because the extended bits have not been digitally enhanced etc and look better than the original material.
