blue flash out of back pc - now dead ?? - whats knackered

advice please

just got a call from a m8,

says his pc just died, according to him all was fine then suddenly a blue flash out of the back of the pc and it died,

before i look at it tonight trying to get a step for a hint, will the psu just have went or will it have taken out a load of stuff with it

Impossible to say.

Best case scenario - PSU Only

Worst case scenario - everything fried.

Most likely to be somewhere in the middle, like PSU + Mobo fried.

If it was a 'quality' PSU it wil have protection to stop other parts from being borked, if it is a PSU that came with a 20 quid case it might be worse.

Try with a new/other PSU nad see if the computer still works.

as Dutch Guy says if it was a good PSU it should just be the PSU that's died.
If it was a cheap PSU there is a higher chance that it's taken other parts with it (cheap PSU's tend to cut back on the things like protection for the PC).

I had something similar happen to me, but fortunately it was only the PSU that had died.
