BMW 130i M-Sport of death

Sounds to me like there is something seriously broken on the back end if it as bad as you describe.

My Mondeo had a bent rear beam (cheers Lopez! :D) and that caused hilarious amounts of oversteer even though it was front wheel drive. This sounds like it could be similar?

If it's spinning up the rears at 10mph (in a straight line or not?) there is something very wrong.

Bald tyres/slippery surface, or if it's doing it on corners only there is something extremely bent/broken/loose at the rear.

The fact the OP says it used to spin the rears up in 3rd at 70mph in the wet says to me something has been failing on the car for a while.

The 130i has tremendous grip even in wet conditions and won't even spin the rears in 2nd gear under WOT, so it should not have been doing it in 3rd for sure.

Get the whole rear suspension checked over, shocks, springs, trailing arms, diff if its got one and make sure tyres are OK and pressures are correct.

Sounds to me like something has been slowly failing and now its failed.

Absolutely Worthy, already sent a message to my boss to let him know that somethings royally wrong with the car and I'll be taking it to be looked at.

Thing is I've been noticing it more and more lairy recently but I've put it down to the bad weather and greasy roads; maybe it's been a developing problem for a while. I'm gonna check the tyres over thoroughly tomorrow morning when it's light but when I've felt the centre grooves there's at least 5-6mm of tread left.

Sigh, just as I was thinking of getting rid of the thing too =)

Check the inside edges of the tyres, you might have plenty of tread in the middle of the tyre but the inside could be bald, possibly even on the way through. I dont know if this is an issue that occurs on the 1 series, but I've seen it on the E46 and E92. Worth a look though.

Cars with an ESP program have a steering sensor to work out what the driver wants to do. If it's wrong and the car thinks you're trying to steer but the G sensor/gyro says you're not, it will brake the wheels to try and steer the car. But the OPs recents posts suggest this is not the problem.
Makes sense I guess, never really gave that much thought. Thanks for educating me :)

On a similar note. Well, not really but I'll share anyway..

It's been below zero all day, and it's been drizzling whilst I was in the pub.
Some cobbles and a 30mph 45 degree unexpected drift without TC certainly wakes you up

**** me.
