looking at getting one of these seen a good few around the £3000 mark anything i should look for? is high milage a problem ? or is it ok with service history
 
It's going to be an old tired example and cost a lot to run. If you only have £3000 to spend you probably won't be able to afford the running costs and the price of fixing it when it goes wrong.

Wasn't the 328i on the E46's before the 330i came in and probably a better bet at this price point?

The 328 was yes, but they'll be even older and just as doggy, not worth it really in my opinion, especially if the OP doesn't have money spare for WHEN it goes wrong.

I was just thinking more chance of getting a better 328i than a 330i for £3k but ideally up the budget or look at something else as it's gonna be very big false economy.
 
running costs will be fine, it will be a second car :) i have a budget of £5000 but it would be nice to save the insurance out of that i just wondered about cheaper ones weather they need to be avoided
 
It's not your standard running costs, it's when the suspension needs doing, it's if you want to get the VANOS issue fixed.

As a rough guide Fox has a similiar aged car to the one you would be looking at, with the same engine (although his a 5 series) and his is one of the best conditioned cars you'll ever see, yet it can regularly cost him 4 figure sums every few months to get everything sorted.

It's unlikely to break down and leave you stranded but the actual cost to keep on one the road in a decent condition with everything working is pretty big.

It being a second car isn't going to stop it from throwing up the odd (potentially uneconomical) repair.

That, and they aren't really cheap cars to run. People tend to think that just because they can afford the initial purchase price they can afford the running costs which is very rarely the case.
 
What is it with the plethora of 'I want to buy an old prestige car for 30% less than they are really worth and I think it will cost 10p to run' threads lately?

£3000 330Ci's? Just... seriously, where to even start? Everything I said in the £3k 530i thread and more given a decent 330Ci costs more than a decent 530i and is more likely to have been abuse.

£3k is not money which should be used to buy a 330Ci.
