BMW 520I SE Respray Costs?

Hi,

I just wondered what the costs were (roughly obviously) for a complete respray.

The current car has scratches and what have you on it and the door has been badly 'touched up' so needs a little work doing.

Would it be more beneficial to have just the bits touched up (so far it's the bonnet - chipped) passenger side door (bad bodge job) and underneat the front where it's been curbed.

Also if anyone could recommend a company to do it - either in Stoke or Cardiff I would be most grateful.

Cheers,

M.

Sorry it's a 2001 Silver Metalic.

And my gut instinct was £2000 (eek).

NINJA EDIT: How much do you reckon it would cost just to have specific areas sprayed - i.e. the bonnet, under the number plate bit and side door lower?

Ah well guess the best bet is to save up and then get a proper job done.

On a slightly off-topic question there is a long piece of metal that sits just below the boot and goes all the way around which also needs replacing - any rough figures on that?

Well the colour is matched to the rest of the car it's right underneath the bumper from an external position it's a big bar which sort of overlaps to the left and right around the car. I'll get a picture up later..

I haven't done anything to it - just off the previous owner.

It's mainly grit for the bonnet and front of the car if I'm completley honest. The passenger door is more obvious and needs to be dealt with as someone has done a poor job on it in the past.

As for everything else inside and engine wise it's perfect. It's just the exterior and I'm thinking whether to get the bits touched up or resprayed - but the way it's looking and the way my mind works is that a repsray will probably be much better.

Well if I am perfectly honest the body work isn't what I'd call tatty. It's a really nice car. It's just that ideally I'd like a few things done on it. The paint work doesn't really need doing it's more I want it doing.

I'm trying to find a picture of the back of the car so I can point it out to you - harder to find than it sounds!

Only problem is the dent is going to be a right **** to get pulled out - and then it will need to be resprayed as well. I thought that wouldn't cost much but obviously I am very wrong (I expected a few hundred quid).

Suppose another option would be to call out on chips away / dent wizards style companies and get them to knock out the dents spray in the chips. Then take the car to a body shop and ask the to mop the body work with a professional polisher.

I've never had a respray but people saying £2000 surely thats for a full engine / interior out job with all the panels removed, no? I guess this chap really just needs the exterior trim removed, the exterior panels rubbed down, resprayed and given a coat of clearcoat?

I'd just like (at the moment) the bonnet doing the bit below the bonnet doing (which is in contact with the door) and the passenger door - not all of it needs doing but I'm guessing if I did it in parts then it would look better?

If you know of someone in the Cardiff / Bristol / any areas around that then I would be very interested in having it done asap. :)

Thanks would need names though if possible theres lots of spray shops - sadly though some of them are rubbish (according to colleagues at work) hence recommendations would be cool.

Well I will give Mike a call in a couple of hours. I'll then obviously go with his suggestion to at least get a quote. Then it's just a matter of getting the money for it - lol
