BMW 520I SE Respray Costs?

The only bit of metal I can think of is above the bumper and below the boot.. cosmetically everything visable bumper and below from the rear is plastic?

so you have got a low end e39 with tatty bodywork, is it really worth spending all this money on?

Either live with it, or sell and buy a nicer one. Mechanically perfect BMW's arn't exactly difficult to find

Well if I am perfectly honest the body work isn't what I'd call tatty. It's a really nice car. It's just that ideally I'd like a few things done on it. The paint work doesn't really need doing it's more I want it doing.

I'm trying to find a picture of the back of the car so I can point it out to you - harder to find than it sounds!

Here is the back of mine:

Can you point out which bit it is?

Suppose another option would be to call out on chips away / dent wizards style companies and get them to knock out the dents spray in the chips. Then take the car to a body shop and ask the to mop the body work with a professional polisher.

I've never had a respray but people saying £2000 surely thats for a full engine / interior out job with all the panels removed, no? I guess this chap really just needs the exterior trim removed, the exterior panels rubbed down, resprayed and given a coat of clearcoat?

Thats going to cost a fortune to get replaced as that panel is bonded to the rear wings on each side. Probably better of getting the dent pulled out by Dentmaster or similar.

Only problem is the dent is going to be a right **** to get pulled out - and then it will need to be resprayed as well. I thought that wouldn't cost much but obviously I am very wrong (I expected a few hundred quid).

I'd just like (at the moment) the bonnet doing the bit below the bonnet doing (which is in contact with the door) and the passenger door - not all of it needs doing but I'm guessing if I did it in parts then it would look better?

You've gotta be joking. There is no way you'll get a proper job on a 5 Series for that money.

Yes you will.

For a front bumper one door and a bonnet I'd expect change from £400 at todays paint prices. BMW is no different to normal paint and anybody decent repair garage can spray it on.

The pain is £4.99 a litre from a motor factors for the entire BMW range apart from Estoril Blue, Dakkar Yellow and some metallics, and you would need 3.5 litres for this job tops. The rest is made up of labour in prep, spray and drying time.

I can provide you with multiple quotes all around the same price if you like.

If you know of someone in the Cardiff / Bristol / any areas around that then I would be very interested in having it done asap. :)

I'm glad to be proved wrong, I've discounted removing the stonechips on my bonnet through a respray on cost grounds. How much for just a bonnet, then..?

Hmmmm I dunno where you are getting these prices from - all I know is if I had his car it would not be re-sprayed with £4.99/ltr paint.

Quality paint from someone like PPG, Leacher, Du-Point costs about £80 for 2.5ltr. That's just the basecoat.

My Apologies, it appears my 2 button is sticky 2222""""""" there, I meant £24.99 a litre. Hope I didnt get your hopes up ;)

Quotes still pop up around £400.

m4cc45 - Give this guy a call, Mike on 01443 493123, tell him he's been recommended to you and would he be able to give you the name and number of the guy he uses for his spray work. Mike owns an amazing garage in the valleys.

Fox - £200-£250 tops if you wanted just a bonnet doing with a repair to stone chips.
