Got this as a daily and as usual diamond cut wheels have the white worm

They have been refurbed in past so another diamond cut not a goer, tbh though I find DC far too much hassle even if they do look good

supplying dealer has stumped up 500 quid (warranty) to get them sorted and intend getting them powder coated

booked in here https://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/alloy-wheel/finishes/gallery/

wht colour would you good folks recommend, looking at black chrome or smoked chrome but open to all suggestions

640.jpg Happy with the results :) 20220712_130123.jpg

I think I'd have been tempted to get rid of them entirely. The 6 Series is a fantastic car but those wheels have the typical issue you get with wheel designs introduced as part of a facelift, they were not designed at the same time as the car and never seem to look quite right.

A set of the original 19 inch wheels would have improved the ride quality, looked better and also are an entirely painted finish so no more issues with diamond cut wheels.

Otherwise that's a really nice car - best colour, must be one of the last ones, so a 2016/2017?

I think I'll always regret the fact I never had one of those.

Yep late 2017

The issue I have with the wheels is that with 20s on and run flats the slightest sight of a pothole is brutal to both car and driver

Was the colour that drew me to it, don't see many

I read about that earlier, not sure how it's going to work. Are they going to pay to install heated seats on every new car on the off chance people subscribe to it for a few months over Winter?

Yep, that’s how it works.
It’s already been happening on some options, where they are installed in the car but the owner/user needs to pay the option price to unlock it and make it work.

Tesla have been doing it for about a year already.

Welcome to microtransaction hell

Will be interesting to understand people's thoughts on this? Seems ridiculous to me, especially considering the subscription options are one year, three year and unlimited.

Bit of a minefield though, e.g. how much are heated seats usually? Guessing they're part of a cold weather pack so hard to view an apple vs apple comparison to just buying the option. Supposedly options are worthless in regards to increased value when it comes to second hand, or so I've read - even though I always read people say "hard to find x with a, b, c options".

Did BMW recently poach an exec from EA Games or something? :p

Audi doing the same on the e-tron where all cars come with Matrix lights. If you didn't tick the options box you can buy them in the app later on.

I wonder how they'll get around people coding them in.
They won't, simple as that. It's just milking money off those who aren't so up to date with that side of things which to be fair is most people.

I don't see why people are getting upset though, if you didn't spec the option at the start then you now have the option to get them. If you don't want heated seats then just don't pay

I will be the used car buyers/market which suffer as they are usually the ones who benefit from cars 'fully loaded' with options for cheap second hand prices.
This is car manufacturers developing a pay model to extract money from the second, third, forth... etc owners

So you think BMW will disable an option that was specced from new to extract money from used car sales?

It's a little bit too much of a conspiracy theory to me

Will this mean all used cars in the future are all the same? No different options meaning a better price?

Will the cars now be cheaper as options aren’t paid for upfront? Oh, sorry, I was thinking fairly and not with my corporate profit hat on. Silly me.

If the options aren't specced up front and the owner subscribes to them, then the second, third etc hand owners will have to also subscribe to get them.

Yes, if the option model is pay monthly, then if the fee isn't being paid for that option then it will be disabled - simple.

Yes - With EV's more power, torque and battery capacity can be unlocked by paying an option fee. So it's not just limited to tech/interior options.
e.g. Tesla could sell one version of the M3 with dual motors and a 75 kWh battery with the base priced model being single motor, 55 kWh battery enabled, and you pay a monthly fee to use/unlock the extra motor and battery capacity.

Well, in the traditional model if the options weren't specced up front then the second owner wouldn't get them either.

What's the difference?

Nothing, except the opportunity to get them has now been presented to the second owner when it wouldn't have been available before.

They aren't removing the ability to spec the options up front. Just a second chance to get them later if you decide you made a mistake.

Did you read the article linked

BMW starts selling heated seat subscriptions for $18 a month -The auto industry is racing towards a future full of microtransactions : https://www.theverge.com/2022/7/12/23204950/bmw-subscriptions-microtransactions-heated-seats-feature

This means the only way you can use the heated seat option is to pay monthly for it, or subscribe for a year ($180), three years ($300), or pay for “unlimited” access for $415.
If the first owner knows they are only using the car for 2-3 years (most company car/salary sacrifice users), why would they pay more for unlimited use ?!!
