BMW E46 Service cost - does this sound right ?

Any auto electric place could do it in 3 odd hours, they charge around £25 per hour.

So around £150 ish will have you a new mat fitted which isn't that bad going !

What are you talking about?

You told me I was wrong and then went on to describe a different fault entirely? Obviously if its not the occupancy mat it wont cost that much.

The E46 has a common issue with the passenger occupancy mat. A replacement is very expensive - the only alternative is a bit of a bodge by fitting a bypass. Hence the use of the phrase 'almost certainly' in my post, indicating this was the likely cause but not ruling out that it could be something else.

I did not tell you you were wrong, if you bother to read what I wrote, I pointed out in my experience its no where near as common as you seem to think, on the e39 and e46 its been a simple reset to cure the issue.

My mums had her e46 for years, it happens pretty much twice a year and never has it needed the occupancy mat replacing and no, its not been by-passed either!

You use the phrase almost certainly, well, I could use it in just the same manner!

Lets hope for the OP his is an experience similar to mine as opposed to your knowledge!

Hi guys

I found out the issue with the airbag light is related to a duff seatbelt pre tensioner. The mechanic is going to ring BMW to check the part price and get back to me but he thinks it will probably cost 100-150 in all to sort including labour. I just checked online and the part seems to be around £20 and the actual labour should be about an hour. His quote so far seems steep to me. What do you think? He's going to call me again with a final price.

My old e46 airbag light came on once a month. In the end I just bought an airbag reset tool off ebay for £35 and used that connected to the outlet under the bonnet on the driver's side. Didn't know of a bypass at that time!

Sold it for the same price later when I got rid of the car too :p

So BMW wanted £100 for the part but I managed to find the same part online for around £20.

I'll probably give this a stab myself. Failing that I was quoted £40 for the garage to do it for me provided I supplied the part.

My indy replaced the passenger seat occupancy mat for me once (e46 330d). I cant remember the details, but the labour charge was reasonably hefty cos taking apart the Sports seats is a right PITA apparently.

Indys arent really up for trim type work. Your best bet are auto electricians, type who do speakers etc etc. They will do it in half the time and half the labour rate.
