Hi guys, need some help with a body work quote that I've been given for a Honda Accord 02 that I damaged. I won't go into details, other than I'm paying for it myself.

There were 2 areas of damage, dent in front left door and scratch going down both left side doors. When looking at the damage and the photo I took of it, it didn't seem that bad.

Now I've spoken to the owner and he been given a quote of £600 for a replacement door and cost of touching up the paint work. Would you say that is about right or do you think that a replacement door is a bit much?

Any advice would be great, just don't want the owner taking advantage.

This is the only pic I got, pretty poor I know

It's easily possible he has been quoted £600 for that, a much smaller dent on my 325ci ended up being quoted at £850 (rear panel, rear quarter and bumper all affected by the small ding). He could probably get it done cheaper but sounds like you don't have much choice. In theory he could also charge you for an equivalent spec hire car as well.

Might have to bite the bullet and pay. I just thought that for a bump it was a bit excessive to have it replaced. But, I don't know anything about the body work of cars.

I can't see him having to hire a car to run around in, as the damage doesn't (as far as I can see) effect the drive of the car.

I'd suspect that most garages would want to fit a new door skin because the dent is along that crease line.

Quote sounds about right to me, I had a guy reverse out of his drive into me whilst I was waiting in traffic, result was some deep scuffs on my rear bumper, bodyshop wanted something like 370 + VAT to put that right.

Sorry to hijack but I am in a very similar position thanks to lack of skill and snow/ice. I have been given a rough estimate of !500 from the owner of the vehicle. Is this reasonable or excessive?

Very reasonable, pay him right away, get him to sign saying the issue is closed and then thank your lucky stars as you've dented the sill and thats HUGELY expensive to fix, a lot more than 500 quid!

The Honda is a fiddly repair because of the profile of the door. You could knock it out and fill it, but most larger bodyshops won't be bothered and will just quote to skin the door. £600 for a door skin and 2 panels sprayed is about the going rate for a main dealer or large accident repair place.

The bottom one is reasonable at £500 - door and sill to repair, then 2 doors and the sill to paint.

Not really - pull it out with a slide hammer, then a skim of filler and paint it.

If you're talking cutting the sill out and welding a new one it that would ramp the price up, but that amount of damage doesn't really justify it.

Has he not hit shift and the number 1 and actually means £1500?

My thoughts exactly, to get the sill repaired properly is going to cost buckets.

Dunno about you but I wouldnt accept that sort of bodge in a non fault situation!

I'd trust it more than some letting some bodyshop monkey loose with an angle grinder and a welder I think.

If you weld a repair panel in it'll probably be smoothed in with filler anyway.

I've seen sills heated and pulled without much fuss and it was a much deeper (tow bar) knock than that. That was at a pro repair place too.

@ the OP, the cost seems about right. If they are using Pennine Honda (I notice you're in Rochdale) they will charge about the same.
