There appears to be more and more information that is either wanted and sought after by members of the bodybuilding community here regarding food/diet.

I think this thread could be useful for people looking to make the right choices when it comes to their nutrition.

I'm no expert
, I won't pretend to be but as far as I am concerned, nutrition and diet are more important than the training itself. I would say its 60/40 in favour of nutrition in terms of people reaching a attaining their goals.

ok why do I think it is more important... well I consider these 2 points.... When you go to the gym and if you know what you are doing, 99 percent of the time you will train hard and be happy when you leave. We all have those days when it doesn't go as well, but they are fairly rare. However, its much easier to fall off the wagon when you are trying to eat right, we have busy lives, work long hours and have to socialise etc ... so eating fast foods is something that occassionally can not be avoided (for most.) Staying on track with your diet day in day out is often very difficult.

The second point is the adverse effects of a poor diet. Simply eating the wrong foods before and after your workouts, negate the positive work you done during your workout. Your muscles don't get the nutrients they require to repair and grow etc etc....
Its not just junk/fast foods, its the wrong foods. We want foods that stave off our hunger, so that when it comes to meal times we can make better choices about what we consume, rather than be ravishing hungry and raiding the fridge and end up eating the wrong stuff.

There are dozens of threads and posts that ask the question... "what can I eat" or complaining that "eating this stuff can be boring".. they have a point. Its difficult at first to look for foods that you can eat that can keep you lean and mean or big and brutal!!! We need to have a wide variety of meals to help keep us on track.

So I took this opportunity to start a thread for meals...

We don't have to go down the road of macro's (if you wish to do that; thats fine) I would rather people post a good breakfast, or lunch, dinner, evening meal. The experiences of people that eat just before hitting the sack.. or does everyone eat cottage cheese:p

I posted this meal the other day on another thread but its such a great meal.

Sweet Jacket potato (yam) to prepare: stab about 12 times, bang it in the microwave for 12 minutes and you are golden!!!
low salt/sugar beans
cottage cheese
black pepper

That is a lovely meal

My staple diet consists of

Salmon or Chicken breast
brown rice (boil in the bag)
Broccolli, boil for only 5 to 10 minutes to keep all the beneficial nutrients!!

Salmon, how I prepare it: Get your salmon from the fridge/freezer, get some tin foil. Place the salmon on the tin foil inside a baking tray, boil a kettle and pour the boiling water onto the salmon, add some olive oil. Sprinkle some black pepper, and lemon pepper onto the salmon and then fold the tin foil around the salmon so you have the bed of water and the salmon sealed. Oven cook at max for 25 minutes and you have a steamed piece of fish that will blow your mind.

So please post some meals that you enjoy that can help us all widen the spectrum of the good meals we can all consume.

I don't want to debate the validity of Training V Diet.. it's only an opinion and one to emphasise the importance of nutrition, albeit.. very crudely

Cottage cheese is the most vile, disgusting, stomach turning, vomiting inducing sludge ever conceived. Just the smell or look at that stuff makes me want to throw up. I used to force myself to eat this stuff. I actually put it in the blender and tried to drink it once. That was a very bad day. :(

I try and take some casein powder before bed. Lasts 12 hours in your system. Job done.

btw, good idea on the fish. I usually just place it in the oven and cook it for 30 minutes.

Just don't have sardines with wholegrain rice, unless you don't mind sacrificing the taste.

you can get flavoured / mixed cottage cheese nowadays which tastes fine, not amazing but a lot better then the normal stuff.

i had a red pepper and chilli cottage cheese as a side to my meal and it was fine, so long as cottage cheese isn't the main focal point of the meal im sure everyone could eat a teaspoon or two as a side.

meal ideas

fresh filled egg pasta (fillings range from herb and cheese to spinach ricotta, you can also get meat fillings but the meat is usually fatty red meat and of poor quality) with any sauce you want, this pasta is found in fridges at asda next to fresh soups usually.

i usually boil the kettle, throw boiling water into a pan and add the pasta - pasta cooked within 4 minutes.

for the sauce i usually take my time, chop onions, garlic, green chilli, mushrooms, peppers or any meat you want.

i cook using ground nut oil - olive oil should not be used for cooking (google it)

fry onions slightly, add chopped garlic and mushrooms, peppers, sweetcorn (tin), meat and fry some more, add in chilli's and ready made pasta sauce from jar (garlic and herb for me) when you reckon all veg and meat is nearly cooked, cook for a further 2 minutes then add in mixed herbs.

people who say they get bored of eating the same healthy food obviously have zero knowledge of food or how to cook, i could make over 100 different types of pasta in the exact same way as above just by changing the type of filled pasta or the sauce i use or the vegetables or the meat (total cooking time, 15 minutes max).

I am very fortunate to love cottage cheese. I have it every day.

Lunch at work ideas if you have access to a microwave;

Tin of tuna mixed with a 2 tables spoons cooked brown rice, and a couple of spoons of Lloyd grossman Chilli and Tomato sauce. Add some chooped green/red peppers.

Also make a chilli con carne with tuna.

Cottage cheese in a blender haha, something tells me it wouldn't blend too well and you'd end up with an even fouler residue.

I've got a special dish that I can microwave fish in that takes 9.5 minutes, that + couscous and veg is my normal main meal. Or chicken instead of fish.

Also cottage cheese is nice on its own :p

For those of you that don't like cottage cheese try quark, preferably from sainsburys or morrisons.

Doesn't taste of anything, it's a bit like philadelphia but without the flavour, just throw in some pb and nesquik and off you go.

Bacon salt is another condiment many don't know of, great all rounder and is invaluable when on keto.

Don't forget quinoa as well, i often have that with some tuna in pouches, the sort that has a bit of flavouring with it, it's not half bad.

Hux I have been hearing a lot about quinoa.. I was looking online some ideas on how to prepare it, will give it a go next week.

The Craig.. expand on the dish you use in the microwave, and do you cook your fish from chilled or from frozen.

Couscous will also be invited to my fridge this week!!

I was in a rush ok. Leave me alone. :(

I also added a can of tuna to the shake as well. It was really chunky.

On a side note, I used to actually really really enjoy putting tuna, cottage cheese, lettuce and making a toasted sandwich with it. That was pretty good.

I too despise cottage cheese and went through a couple weeks of forcing it down, casein shake it is now with water and a bit of strawberry flavoring. Still a little rank but meh it does the job

Cottage Cheese and Pinapple... I'll try anything once!!!.. to an extent I dont think I will ever be adding a can of tuna to my shakes Rob.... :D
