Our central heating boiler for some reason isn't firing up, the thermostat is set to max temp, the hot water and CH are both set to be on permanently,

Does anyone have any bright ideas on how to fix this?

Call the gas board unless you know how to service a boiler. Could be any number of reasons why it's not working. Like any device it's going to fail eventually.

When ours has done this in the past switching off the control box at the mains for a minute or so then switching back on seemed to revive it.

Trying to fix a boiler is like playing in a mine field. Please call those who know what they are doing and DONT listen to any advice on how to fix it from people here.

usually there's a reset button, also theres an ignition light. Check that's on, could be your pilot light/ignition isn't work..

Edit - should read all posts before replying LOL

the only two things i would try before calling a qualified gas engineer are the master reset switch and maybe manually cycling the pump.

but certainly wouldnt touch anythign else.

When did you last have it serviced? Even if you've managed to reset it, arrange a regular servicing schedule. This is something everyone should do by the way; all gas applicances should have an annual service, I suggest just before the cold weather sets in.

What? I am starting with the basics here. I've worked with boilers bigger than your house, so don't try and be sarky with me pal. Oh, btw - where is your contribution?

He's already fixed it! No need to throw your toys out the pram :p
