Boiler / Timer Control tripping RCD - any ideas?

So this morning when our heating timer triggered the startup of our combi boiler for hot water it tripped the RCD. I reset the switch and it did it again.

Before I call some one out is there anything I can do to find/repair the fix?

The only DIY option is to find out what's causing the tripping by disconnecting things until it stops. Depending on what it is, and your skill level, you can they try replacing it.

It's usually going to be something that involves electricity and water such as an immersion heater.

Why would you have a timer for hot water on a combi boiler? The whole point of a combi is to have water on demand triggered by opening a tap.

That was my mistake - we have a hot water tank.

So is that time switch turning on an immersion heater or the boiler itself?

If it's an immersion heater then that is something that could be replaced reasonably easily and cheaply.
