I was originally considering bookshelf speakers for sitting room as I am sitting 2 meters from the TV and where any future speakers will go. My concern with floor speakers is that they would be too over powering for the size of the room (around 4 by 4 meters)

I came across monitor Audio Bronze BR5 Floorstanders for 359 pounds would this be over the top for room?

Secondly A friend has Mission E3ASR Sub would this combined with the above front speakers all be simply to much for the room size?

Hi-Fi or HT? What amp are you using? On a av amp you can adjust the crossover, so can reduce room boom with floorstanders in smaller rooms.

If you're sending full-range then floorstanders in a small room isn't a good idea.

Go and demo them. MA with Onkyo will probably be quite bright sound. If you set to small 80hz with a subwoofer room boom shouldn't be too bad.

Hey there, I have just been out today demoing floorstanding speakers for a Hi-Fi setup. I started on the BR5 (£299 in a sale!), sounded really good but the finish was lacking. The missus also was not impressed. Next I tried the Kef IQ5SE(£399), whilst looking much nicer than BR5, the bottom end wasn't there, meaning that the speakers sounded quite weak and not in the same league as the BR5. Lastly, I decided to demo the RS6, at 25% off they were at the top of my budget (£450). Finish on them was first class and the sound quality blew the other two away. I can say if you try these speakers you won't be disappointed at all.

You might find floorspeakers to be a bit much though. My advice is go and listen to them and see what you think for yourself.
