I had major trouble with my PC last week, it wouldnt boot but i thought i had solved that.

Today, i come home from work and switch on my rig... all is well athough it stalls after 'CD-ROM no medium', i have my DVD drive as boot number 1 in boot sequence then my main HDD.

I slightly panicked and went into BIOS on reboot and for some reason its mapped my external HDDs in the boot sequence rather than my internal HDDs!

i unplugged them and then set my boot sequence and then it works fine.

Why would my BIOS do this? i find it very strange that it would randomly put my external 1tb HDD as a boot disk on its own!

as i say im happy everything is still working but still... very odd.

If it crashed and it thinks its cause of BIOS settings (normally when OCing) it will reset to defaults (perform its own clr cmos) to prevent any damage

I normally disable all other boot options except for the main boot disk, this stops other devices from interfering with the boot process.

I had fixed my pc and it has been running fine for almost a week, and it hasnt crashed since... just randomly set my USB device as the number one boot drive.

Last night, as always my my boot sequence was set like this:

1. DVD-ROM
2. WD 300gb Raptor

i have heaps of other HDDs aswell but like you i keep my boot sequence clean.

This doesn't seem to be an issue yet, i guess i'll see what happens when i boot up tomorrow with my external HDDs connected again... it would be a bit of a pain if i have to disconnect all my external drives after i shut down.
