I went to Boots today to see if they had some isopropyl alcohol as it's useful for cleaning pretty much any surface i.e mice, Keyboards etc.... as it disinfects, Cuts through grime like a hot knife through butter and evaporates leaving no residue behind and
the head pharmacist came out after the sales assistant looking a tad wary and he said -

"No sorry we've actually been banned from selling that due to people misusing it".

I found other places online that sell it, Namely the rainforest and quickly ordered 6 x 500ml bottles to put into storage just in case other places start banning this very useful cleaning stuff.

Does anyone think other places will start removing this from shelves too ? I find it odd punishing people for the 1 or 2 idiots that might misuse it :(

I use it for electronics stuff quite a bit be a shame if places are banned from selling it - though I guess I can always source it through specialist stuff.

It is great for cleaning matt monitors.

Tramps must be drinking it but surely there's cheaper highs out there !

It used to be methylated spirit. Hence they all come with a dye.

I suspect Boots corporate 'banned' themselves from selling it rather than an external force banning places from selling it.

Ask the question where can I get it on the internet and nearly every reply is "boots" or "chemists"

Yes but that doesn't mean very many people buy it from there. Especially the one individual store you are going to.

I buy IPA from the internet. The main demand (I observe) comes from cleaning electronics and computer equipment, those type of consumers are going to use the internet.

It might be a sensible thing to do.

How much money do you think Boots stores make by storing and selling IPA?

Enough to take on the risk of the bad PR when someone dies from drinking IPA based drinks?

I've never actually seen it sold at boots - I used to source it from a specialist shop and more recently from online - though the stuff sold by most online sellers seems a bit "B grade" compared to what I used to get - even when ostensibly the same thing.

EDIT: On the subject of misuse - using some liquid rubber stuff (sets hard) (for a project not abusing it) at the moment and think I need to increase the ventilation a bit :S

Really good for removing sticky marks, remains of adhesive labels off things, I don't know about drinking it though, I splashed some on my face a while ago and it felt like my skin was burning off
