Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

Saw the film last night and it was up to expectations.

The guy at the Rodeo was such a stereotype it was unreal.

The dinnerparty was hilarious. His compliment to the ladies at the table had me in tears then when he came back from excusing himself, game over for me!!!

I've seen this movie in 2 very different parts of the US; New York and Texas.

On the whole this movie went down a lot better in New York, the only joke that bombed hugely was the one about Jews flying buildings into planes like on 9/11. Not good :p I thought it was hilarious but hey. All of the other anti-semitic jokes went across well. The New Yorkers also found the New Yorkers being unfriendly jerks very amusing too.

Texas the laughter was a lot more subdued throughout the entire film, especially during the Rodeo and Christian church scenes.

On the whole I thought the movie was very funny but I didn't like the move away from extended interviews towards more slapstick type comedy. The **** in a bag and a few other jokes were just not needed. Also the scenes with the prostitute felt very forced.

No swearing

i thought the film was funny.

how he got away with some of the stuff is amazing. but i wonder how much of it was staged, i mean the ending of the film surely that was staged did she know it was going to happen?!?

even if it was staged it was still done very well.

i laughed, but was very shocked by some of the content... no wonder people came down hard on it! but still i bet all the people moaning would have laughed too.... i was laugh even when i tried not to!

Saw this earlier today and it's one of the funniest films I've ever seen. The wrestling scene had me crying with laughter, maybe I'm just childish XD.

'Borat' punched in street attack

Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen has been punched by a man who didn't like his jokes.

Cohen approached the passer-by in a New York street and said in the style of his Kazakh alter ego: "I like your clothings. Are nice! Please may I buying? I want have sex with it."

But the target of his joke failed to see the funny side and punched Cohen repeatedly in the face, according to The Sun newspaper.

Cohen had been on his way to a bar with British actor Hugh Laurie after the pair appeared on US TV show Saturday Night Live.

A friend said: "Sacha couldn't resist playing the fool as Borat, but picked on the wrong person.

"I guess this guy thought he was being attacked by someone unstable and lashed out. Sacha is very lucky he didn't get a much worse beating."

Cohen was said to be shaken up, but did not receive any lasting scars.

This is not the first time Americans have failed to get the Borat joke.

Two US students who appeared in the Borat movie are suing Cohen, claiming they have suffered "mental anguish" after they were filmed making racist and sexist remarks.

I wasn't that impressed. Some of it had me in stitches (the wrestling scene), but overall it was just "meh." I cringed quite a bit and did laugh quite a lot, but it was not the comedic epiphany many have been describing.

Saw this last night and yes its funny but NOT that funny, tbh ive seen much more funnier movies than this. But saying that its still a pretty funny move..some class scenes in it ie the Pam Anderson one was hilarious if anything...the fight that Azmat and Borat have was another funny part as well.

All in all not a bad movie but not something id go and see again tbqh, like i said its funny but not that funny as some make it out to be. ]

Jagshamesh :D

Off topic, but what exactely does that mean? A few of my mates have it as part of their MSN name & ive got no idea what it means. :p

From Wiki:

Jagshamesh - "how are you?" (from the Polish "Jak się masz?", the Czech "Jak se máš?"). Returning to Central Asia, the Uyghur greeting "yahşimusiz" means "are you well?", and in Uzbek it's "yaxshimisiz". Perhaps ironically, "yaxshi emas" means "not good/well" in Uzbek.

Thanks.
Odd that my mates have it on their MSN as 'Jagshamesh, I Like You'. Muppets. :p

i saw this last week and thought it was good, but i think i was expecting to much. i thought the best bits where when he was doing interviews e.g. the feminists and when he is learning american humor. there was to much slap stick imo.
sacha baron cohen is a comedy genius when he is interviewing people whether is be as borat, ali g or bruno
"do not fear me gypsy, all i want from you is your tears"

Got around to seeing it last night thanks to the wonderful people at Orange.
I enjoyed it.
It was wrong on so many levels, it had moments that made you cringe and there were some real "Laugh Out Loud" moments too.

I think somebody on another forum I read described it as the funniest film he'd seen - I won't go that far but it is good, it is funny (a lot funnier than some of the rubbish recently).

What I find quite ammusing is the fact the US have taken to this character/film and a lot of it is simply taking the pee out of their country - I wonder if they realise this?
That a lot of the laughing is indeed at them rather than with them.

As someone who lives in NYC and watched it last night, people (with any level of intelligence) definitely realise it's extracting the urine.

The ironic thing is that despite the portrayal of Kazakhstan etc, the country that comes out the worst, is the USA.

thread resurrection time...but i don't think that's the ironic thing. it's the obvious thing.

personally, i thought the film wasn't subtle enough. Borat used to be pretty good in the ali g series, but it was just missing something. it was pretty funny in some places, (least of all, the fight scene...don't get what was hilarious about that) but overall i was hugely disappointed with it.

Went to see another film last night, wife dragged me in to see Borat instead.

She tells me that i laugh far too loudly. :D

Brilliant film, very wrong, very shock funny.

Not something you can watch repeatedly, but still a good film.
