Boring Alert: Newcar with pics... Diseasal!

Most pessimistic man 'int world!!

Not so, you just have to apply the FoxFilter (tm) to what ever he says regarding a car, it goes something along the lines of:

What Fox says + running your own house + your disposable income+ your travelling needs + your personal opinion on car ownership = sometimes is applicable to certain aspects of what ever car you might drive/ be looking to buy.

Same as the last time.... You were even in on the thread:

Oh, and this is off topic, thread is not about the prelude, perhaps I should have not bothered with the first pic!

Sorry for not remembering a 7 month old thread. Theres no need to be defensive, it just seemed like a nice example and its a shame to see it go.

Still seems to be an expensive fix - my crease cost nearly a qtr of that cost.

Did it get scrapped or sold on - last question promise.

No idea. Sorry for being bitchy had a lot of people telling me I should not have written it off. Believe me, I did not want to but I had my reasons. Kinda bored of explaining it.

Aside from anything else, it was expensive as the bumper lip was motegi, and would need to be replaced as it had become damaged also. (Bumped up the parts alone by over 240quid iirc)

Just ticked over 90000 miles now, no other failures bar an egr error, but cleared it down with a clean :)
Almost halfway through the engine warranty, so I figure I will drive it into oblivion and keep saving up my car allowance for when it does die!!

Glad to see the ol' tub still going strong (well 90k is strong by French standards! :D)

My sister still has hers too.:)

Funny, neither you nor her have (yet!) suffered Fox's prediction of pain & doom.....:D

Genuine question - how come the engine, turbo & gearbox needed rebuilding at 67k?

Went bang.. Can't remember the exact details. They were replaced, not re-built.

I know :) Good eh. Not counting my chickens yet though!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure this is the engine prone to failure around 60-70k.

As far as I remember the turbo seals start to fail, the engine drinks it's own oil and then totally lets go? Or am I thinking of something else. :p

A new engine, turbo and gearbox is pretty painful IMO? Sure it's not happened in his ownership but it's still happened on that car.

As you say, the OP never had this problem within his ownership so he's excused :p

Surprisingly, my sisters car has had no major issues at all to my knowledge - pretty stunning given the rep of French cars. :)

(Yet!........) :D

I am left wondering what happened to require both a new engine & turbo (understandable that the two would perhaps need replacing together given a major failure) but a gearbox too? ? ?

We're talking about the reliability of the car not the owner though?

Obviously there will be some of the cars that turn out to be reliable but the majority will suffer with some problems, I mean look at this thread, 2 cars, one of which has had all major components already replaced before 70k!
