Bottom bit of desktop and applications hidden under taskbar

On my laptop the bottom bit of my desktop and the bottom of open applications is hidden under my taskbar

I leave the taskbar there all the time and have never had this issue before

I am bracing myself for an obscenely simple answer and to be made to look a total prat

Right-click, Properties, ensure "Keep the task bar on top of other windows" is ticked?

tried that it just covers the bottom of my apps

the taskbar stays up, auto hide is not on

if I use auto hide you can see the bottom of the apps, they go right to the bottom of the screen instead of stopping at the task bar

If you hit the maximize button does it soldv the problem?

nope, it maximizes to the full size of the screen

Is it using any blinds at all?

some of the spreadsheet is hidden under the taskbar, this happens in IE, outlook and all other apps

What's weird is that the scroll bar arrow at the borrom right is above the task bar, so the app obviously knows where the taskbar is.
?

oh ,hadn't noticed that , very odd

it may well clear with a reboot but as it has done this on several occasions I want to hold off from that to see if I can find the cause

actually re the scroll bar, just went on IE and the bottom arrow of the scroll bar is under the taskbar

had to reboot foir something else and the prob has gone as I expected, no doubt it will be back soon
