Hi,

My partner bought a USB-C portable monitor to realise my laptop didn't have USB-C so i thought i'd buy a USB to USB-C cable to solve the problem, it didn't solve the problem, any ideas on how i can get the monitor to work?

She didn't get my advice first which is why i'm in this position....

I am no expert by any means, and be better to wait for others to post their experience, but from a cursory read it is possible, but not easy to get it working.

Your laptop doesn't natively support USB-C (as you have found out). However, again from a quick read of https://dancharblog.wordpress.com/2020/05/10/bi-directional-usbc-dp-cables/ it seems there are HDMI > USB-C converters. They don't do audio, and they seems to require external power (as HDMI doesn't do the power delivery).

However I can't seem to find any of the coverters for sale in the usual UK online shops.

In all honesty, it'll be far easier/cheaper to return it and get a standard monitor with HDMI/display inputs imo.

Thanks for your help, i'll be returning the product :D

Unless someone posts to assist!
