Bourbon, Rye and American Whiskey

Think this thread need a bit of resurrecting ! :p

I wanted to try some Bourbon so first I bought a Woodford Reserve that was quiet good. Then I tired a Bourbon Whiskey from Appalachian Distillery (it was a new arrival on the shelf’s back here in Sweden), and that one wasn't quiet as good. So I thought I ask here for some suggestions ? I read part of the thread and going to try out the Buffalo Trace, Bulleit (although had it in the past it been a while since last so think I try it again) and Evan Williams. I am open for more suggestions though, so if anyone has some, please leave them here for me to consider ! And hopefully they can be bought here in Sweden ! :p
 
I haven't tried any new ones in ages.

I have been looking about but I don't like really going higher than about £35 on a bottle, plus I've been stung beyond more expensive ones that have been horrible.
 
Agree with the other woodford is a v good bottle for the price (at least here) is got a few 1l secretariat bottles last year at waitrose for around £30 and wish I had cleared them out haha.

I dont get the all the raving about eagle rare mind.

My supermarket goto is Jim beam lol

Jack daniels bonded
Jack daniels rye
Tiny cup (yeah yeah not technically bourbon but damn good)
Four roses small batch
Four roses single barrell (altho with the price hike id go sb)
1792 was canny too but getting harder to find over here.

Crown royal was on my list when we went to the States, never had a chance to.find any lol

Thanks, have the Woodford Reserve at home, still some left in the bottle. Might try one of the others next time though.

Unfortunately that one is not available to buy or order here in Sweden (unless I find an web site that ships to Sweden). Thanks for the suggestion though !

1792, Jack Daniels Rye and Tiny Cup is not available form our spirit shop here in Sweden. Was it this Tiny Cup you meant though ? Linky

Four Roses Single Barrel and Four Roses Small Batch can be ordered, so I put it on my wish list. They also have a Four Roses Small Batch Limited Edition 2024, but that one is 6.5 time more expensive ! :eek: :p

Been ages since I been in this thread.

Not tried any new ones recently but I have a few lined up, I got a bottle of Makers Mark 46 French Oaked, and a bottle of Mitchters Small batch bourbon on its way, looking forward to both.

But mainly came on to say, I've come to the conclusion that Woodford Reserve is probably the most inconsistent one I've tried. I've had many bottles of it now, and I've never had a bad one don't get me wrong, but I've had some "standard" ones, and some really good ones.

There will always be a bit of inconsistency, that's actually a good thing, but Woodford so far in my experience seems to have the most variance.
 
Awesome thread!

I've got a bit of a collection going now. I'm really getting into ryes more than anything, and my favourite producer is Wild Turkey. Not really a fan of BT products, though I have a Blanton's SFTB which is decent.

For those mentioning Maker's though, see if you can source the 46 Cask Strength version. A really unique expression, it's all chocolate vanilla fudge.

Anyone else on OnlyDrams?

Nah. Not at all.

In fact oddly (and it's very bottle dependent) but some are easier and cheaper to get hold of here than in the states.

There said all this last time with Trump the time he was in power before and nothing came of it.
 
Tried a new one today, first time in aaaaaaaages I've tried a new one. Angels Envy, got it on offer paid just over £40, normally £60+.

I'm not sure yet... I'm not putting it on the table yet until I've had a bit more of it.
 
Ok so, apparently there is this thing called the neck pour.

They say sometimes, with some bottles, the first bit when you just open the bottle isn't always the best.

And I think it must be true with this one, as it's really growing on me.

Meant to post ages ago but agree on both of thses.

Eagle Rare gets rated everywhere but I just find it bland.

1792 on the other hand is great, it's not particularly expensive over in the States either, it's just over here, as you say harder to find and you pay a premium for that.

That does work both ways though, apparently Woodford Reserve is quite expensive over there if you can find it, almost the opposite here.
