been stuck up to my chest in snow before and that was pretty nasty, had to get dug out pretty quick. just the thought of being burried in sand scares the **** out of me.

That's pretty much what you call being buried alive. None of us know the exact circumstances but still seems like a stupid thing to do for someone as old as him.

Common sense failure, the dangers of sand tunnelling are well known. A tragedy for sure, but a highly preventable one.

The lad was 16, and given that some people think you can leave 4 and 2 year olds unattended while you go to the pub, I don't think parental supervision of a 16 year old is appropriate.

At the age of eight I would cycle five miles own the coast, spend all day at the beach/in the dunes with my friends then cycle home.

Can this thread be renamed 'stupid person dies doing stupid thing'?
