As some of you know, I currently drive a Corsa VXR. I've owned this car for nearly three years now.

Great for a short driving session. However, the same cant be said for journeys that last an hour or more :( . Must have something to do with these -

Great when you're wide awake...... Not so great when you want to lean back and cruise.

I'm trying to put my boy racer image behind me. I cant continue to show up for work in this...... this loud thing. I need something laid back and easy on the eyes.

And before Fox and his evil minions start digging up information from past threads  I'd like to point out that I am aware of my S2000 thread and similar.

Fingers crossed I'll be able to purchase a new car before the end of this year. I just hope it isnt another 200+bhp hot hatch.

Shortlist-
5 Series
VXL Insignia
Vectra
A4
3 Series (Saloon)

I guess you can see the pattern here... Executive!

Cant say I've driven any of the cars in that list so I'll be doing a lot of research!

Thanks in advance for any help / advice.

Not really sure I'd class the 3 series, A4 or Vectra as 'Exec' cars, 'professional' or 'not boy racer' yes.

I think they're classed as "Compact Exec" cars

I'd have thought something like a 330 or 335 (petrol!) would be just what you're after, otherwise, if it was me at least, I'd miss the fun factor.

I would say a 325 would be a good shout. They sold more than the 330i (which means they're much more easily availiable), don't have all the problems that the 335i does, and still have a nice 3 litre, 6 cyl engine that is easily powerful enough for everyday driving.

EDIT: For instance, maybe: http://bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/bmwauc/details/0,,1156___ask-9@adm-xx,00.html?ch=_V0JBV0IzMjA4MFAwNjg2MDQ=

If you want a Vectra or an Insignia that has a decent engine, you'll probably end up in the VXR.

which leaves you with the same image as you have in the corsa. You just swap 3 doors for 5.

Whats your budget ?

The BMW 335i is an epic car. Something like this would be very nice

25k though.

I said no to the boy racer image though... So why would I want to look at the VXR lol!

25k is more than I plan to spend..... Nice though!

Because if you want to have some fun, you want one with a decent engine. Which on a VXL means looking at the VXRs

Also, 15k really isn't enough for a decent saloon. The BMW 335i is out of range, so that leaves e46 330i as the only 3 series saloon in budget.

Not really any audi's i'd want at that price either. 3.0 Quattro isn't that amazing and the S4 is too old at that money.

Personally i'd say ignore the boy racer image and get this.
