I'm trying to work out a percentage, but for some strange reason i cant do it, i feel ashamed, i have a computer science degree under my belt!

I need to work out a percentage of, i.e.

4 of 12 which is 25%.

Apart from me knowing that obvious fact, what formula do you use to get it?

I feel dumb :(

Um 4 of 12 is 33.3% :S

(100/12)*4

Using your example.

4/12 -> Convert it to decimal (in this case 0.33333333)

Multiply the decimal by 100 = 33.333333333(recurring)%

So you got it wrong in your OP ;) 3 is 25% of 12

EDIT: Beaten by 4 people posting :(

Cheers guys!

Could have been on the calculator to somehow get 25% from 4 of 12!

(4/16)*100 does indeed = 25!

Percentages were easy. Surds, however, I hated, and I couldn't get the hang of them. Surds were awful.

Surds are easy :)

Calculus is easy :)

My maths module in my compputing degree is insultingly easy :(

I should have done maths at uni :o

When I was about 8 I learnt percentages like this:

number of questions right / total number of questions (x100 obviously)

So 4 of 16 is 4 questions right / 16 questions = 4/16 = 0.25 (25%)

The Calculus II module at college for BTEC Electical & Electronic engineering gave me aneurisms  I can't remember exactly what was the worst part - I think it was maxima and minima on a curve so I got an expensive graphing calculator to check my answers :)

I've always been good at applied maths for programs etc but when it comes to all this theoretical stuff it does my head in.

.

Bah, integrating and differentiating various trig functions was by far the worst :p

Should try doing mine then.

I'm with you on that.

Our lecturer at college was an absolute genius and ex Uni-Lecturer. Unfortunately most of the class didn't follow his enthusiasm and extremely complicated examples...

Transposing some of the sodding equations was bad enough, nevermind doing the differentiation :( I remember having to work out surface areas of odd objects and some examples of things being dropped from planes and what speed they would reach just before they hit the ground etc... sheesh.

Maths has never been my thing, apart from the odd big of trig, as I used to write a lot of graphics stuff years ago in BASIC when I was a nipper :)

it was " J " notation that did my head in. can not remember what the hell it was for now

Imaginary numbers or something.... that's faded from my memory :) I think one purpose is for impossible values, eg: something that can't be done normally, eg: a square root of a negative number? I'm sure some boffin will correct my wild guess :D

Was going to tell you all about it, then I read the boffin bit :( :p

I wouldn't take boffin as a derogatory term, I used to get called it a lot and my boss calls me super nerd at work despite the fact that I don't have a pony tail and I have a girlfriend

Go ahead and enlighten my alcohol-damaged brain cells :)
