I have respect that he has done well for himself and it goes to show that qualifications are not the be all and end all.

But I still dislike him as a presenter. His presenting skills are all about cheesy grins and wide eyes. :p
to be fair I think his real goal is to get kids interested in physics/science and in that respect he's quite tame compared to some kids presenters. As much criticism as he receives he's obviously doing quite a good job of getting people interested.

Ah but that's what makes it good for TV :p Nobody wants to look at Joe McBland, for example!

Qualifications are overrated either way and this has been known for years now :p Uni students finishing up are realising this at present!

Haha, there is that, hence the, ";DDDDDDD" ;). But meh, I worked for a bit, went to college to do a qualification that's aimed at ~mature students~, now at uni, do a bunch of solid extra curricula stuff, etc... I'm comfortable with how stuff'll unfold.

I know your story - it's a little similar to mine to be exact. I Started A-Levels then got bored. Worked a year or two, went back and chose different A-levels and completed the As&A2 in one year (that was TOUGH) then went to Uni. Best decision ever and now work in my favourite sport. If I had done it 'right' first time around I wouldn't have met the people I did, which lead to where I am now.

I CDE my A'Levels and got a desmond for my degree and yes it may well limit your FIRST job. but that was 14 years ago and frankly now it makes no diffrence.

You need a good expereince list more than you need points or grades.

My graduate employeer told me 6 months after I started he still would have taken me if i had failed my finals (I got the job offer 3 months before the end of the course) because I had an expereince list that that was a good match for the job and he called my old boss from my sandwich year who couldn't say enough good things about me.

Once you are 3-5 years in as an engineer your degree means nothing, thats why i always laugh at the Phd boys I work with, they all think they are gods chosen few but in reality except for the technologists in very specialised subjects who are piegion holed for life, they just wasted years when they could have been earning.

That said they did get 3-5 more years shagging about at uni drinking like fish and having not a care in the world.......... I miss my youth.
