Hi guys, a friend of mine has recently ordered a gaming PC and has spent a fair bit of money on it, I haven't seen the spec yet but I'm lead to believe he spent in excess of £1200.

Anyway, he emailed me today asking what games he should order for when it arrives, what games will push the system?

I honestly couldn't really give any suggestions other than (obviously) Crysis. I'm mainly based on my 360 these days, and I've let my PC go a bit over the last year or two. Basically, I've grown a bit out of touch with PC gaming, all I really play is some occasional WoW.

Does anyone have any recommendations for him? ... don't think he's especially concerned with genre at this stage - mainly just eye candy.

Assassins Creed has been looking decent not heard anything good about it though as a game.
CoD4 looks ok, worth getting just for the game ^_^
UT3 for looks... don't try and play it :P

Thanks for the suggestions guys, trouble is we both have a great many of those games on Xbox 360, do they look that much more spectacular on PC that they are worth getting again?

Oblivion: I have heard looks amazing on the PC compared to 360.
CoD4: surely roughly the same ?
Bioshock: the same(ish)
AC... screenshots of that on PC looks fantastic - doesn't it use DX10?

World in Conflict: I've not heard of... might have to check that one out :)
UT3: Obviously! can't believe I forgot about that one hehe - thanks.

mass effect is out soon on PC, that will give him some nice eye candy for sure. Official specs not available yet, but seeing what it it did to 360, it's going to be hungry app.

Assassin's Creed uses DX9 and DX10. Recommended DX9 mode since the only visual difference is slightly smoother shadows on buildings. Then again, who cares about building shadows? :?

A bit dated, but Homeworld 2 looks fantastic on a nice monitor at FULL capacity... mmm epic space battles.
Otherwise Oblivion and Bioshock.

Crysis
Oblivion
Assassin's Creed
Lost Planet
Call of Duty 4
Company of Heroes
BioShock
STALKER
World in Conflict
Unreal Tournament 3
Team Fortress 2
(Wow making this list has made me realise how many awesome games have came out on PC lately).

It depends, what type of game is your mate into? I could suggest some FPS games, but whats the point him playing those if he hates the genre.

Wrong, I'm afraid..

The only difference is the performance.. Ass Creed has no visual difference between DX9 and DX10, DX10 just renders faster.

I don't think he's a hardcore enough gamer to have prefered genre's. It's mainly just "ooooooooh!" factor atm :)

Can't wait to see Crysis on full tilt, I tried it on my own system a few months back and I died a little inside.

Actually, what am I saying? I am gonna hate to see Crysis! jealousy is an ugly thing.

Agreed

And yet some people still harp on that PC gaming is dead - I say we never have been this spoilt :)

Another vote for Call Of Duty 4.

Fnatastic graphics and amazing gameplay. One of the best games I've played for a long long time. :)
