Braveheart is on again

If anyone's interested, here is a couple of them.

In the movie, Isabella is seen in scenes with Edward I but she never actually met him and arrived in England and married Edward's son after his death.

Edward I's death is showed as being at the same time as Wallace's but he actually died two years later in 1307 while on a march north to battle the Scots. He died in Cumbria, many miles from London where Wallace was exececuted.

Best of all, there were no kilts worn in Scotland in the era of history the film is set in.

Fantastic piece of cinema, my GF's favourite film of all time.

No good if you’re a stickler for historical accuracy however.

As to the no kilts thing, I find it odd because I have been to Stirling to see the Wallace memorial etc and in every depiction his is kilted up, I guess they took artistic license even in the 1800's with his image.

all very minor points

They did. Wallace was a Knight and would've been dressed in a similar manner to his English Counterparts; wearing some form of armour/chain mail. Neither he nor his army would've went into battle done up like extras from Brigadoon.

Sir Walter Scott and Mel Gibson have a lot to answer for.

haha i wasn't aware this pretty average film riles people up so much. There's plenty of historically innaccurate films from zulu to sparticus to gladiator, this is nothing new really. I think what really people don't like is that it shows the english in a negative light and the rest of the world quite likes it..

Anyway Mel Gibson's Australian - Pommy baiting is practically a national sport so it's not really an unknown reason although being perfectly fair it could just be that he hates everyone now and there's no special provision made for the English.

To be fair, no-one but the English like the English :p

The film is ok to watch a couple of times as entertainment (and to get it right up some people :p) but thats about as far as I would go with it....

** please note the tongue in cheek slant on this post ;)

Historical inaccuracies aside I really like the film (but I think most Scots do)....

It's because it makes us remember our ancestors who had the opportunity to die for our country and our freedom, something which we will never be able to do in this generation.

I always have a several tears in my eyes in the "Freedom" scecne or if not the sword thowing final scene at Bannockburn.
