Braveheart is on again

I quite like the film as a piece of entertainment. Oh, and I'm not... 'scotch' ;)

There should be more films about a united Britain imo, the yanks do it all the time, constantly forcing it down our throats about how ace they are :D

Infact, I'm off to watch 'A Bridge too Far'

Completely agree.

Folks who watch braveheart for historical inaccuracies, have any of you watcehd inglorious ********?

Is that not an alternate history film though ? Hitler was killed in 1944 in that movie.

Fatherland is another similar(ish) film in that it depicts a Nazi victory in WWII and most of Europe including Moscow and down to the Caucasus are part of the Reich.

I have seen Braveheart and I quite enjoy it but as I read quite a lot of history then it stands to reason that I will see such errors.

I tried watching it once. But I think (iirc) I lasted about 45 minutes before I couldn't take the dull, plodding, protracted attempt at a story any more and changed the channel.

I don't go to the cinema to be educated.

I go to the cinema to be entertained.

The one drawback though is that many people believe the events of "historical" movies, for example many people believe the US made the important capture of an enigma machine in world war 2 due to the film U571.

Its a personal taste thing of course but really there is no reason why education and entertainment have to be mutually exclusive , you can have an entertaining film and get it accurate too. Otherwise the next Hollywood blockbuster will be Dunkirk! , starring Ben affleck and Matt Damon , where the US navy come to the aid of stranded British troops in the north of France, hurray for America !! :D
